First Parents, do you have any rituals or habits you perform to honor or as a reminder of your child(ren)?

First Parents, do you have any rituals or habits you perform to honor or as a reminder of your child(ren)?

I have several.
* I kiss a picture each night before bed
*On birthdays, I keep a candle burning and make a special wish
*At Christmas, birthdays and other holidays, I add something to a "memory box"

(Just to name the major ones.)

What do you do to keep your child close?

Why would anyone thumb down these answers. Shame on you.

For 30 years I didn't have anything of her except the memory of giving birth. I cried and said a prayer that I hoped she was happy.
Now that I've been in reunion for 7 years, I have baby pictures of her hanging side by side with baby pictures of her brother. I have pictures of her 3 children hanging on my walls. She sent me a birthday card, (it's today) with pictures of the grand kids, one just graduated from the 8th grade. Life is good and I pray that your reunion comes soon.

I have had the pictures that were taken before the "open" adoption closed and I've had them enlarged to 5 X 7's, I have them in almost every room. I talk to my son about her.

I cry. I don't need a special day for that.

That's it.

I have way too many to mention here so I will tell you about one. When my oldest daughter died I sang her into the next world. I swore never to sing again if I couldn't sing to my baby girl. When my middle daughter was born I sang to her for the five minutes I had before she was taken. I swore again never to sing if I couldn't sing to my baby girls. Now with my youngest daughter I sing a song every night as she falls asleep that was written just for my girls. I sing it to keep them all close and to tie them together in some way. I hate that they will grow up seperated. Maybe my song can connect them even if only a little.

Wow a thumbs down for honoring my children. Guess I must have pissed someone off

I probably should have used some of the suggestions here. I just drank a lot. It wasn't in memory, or ritualistic. It was to make the pain go away.

Stinky Pete - I gave you a million thumbs up but only the first one registered. People on here hold fierce grudges.

All you other girls-bless you for your stories. I get so sad when I think of how much my new daughters mom misses her. She says she hugs the computer screen and trys to pretend her daughter is there in the room when I send a video. :(

When i see my daugther i take as many pictures as i can i have alot with her smiling. I have a picture in my wallet that i look at everyday. On her Bday and holidays i buy her a presents and and look at the movies i took of her. I know its really strange but on the day i sighed away my rights i look at the adoption book and i look back on it and reread the letters that the adoptive parents gave me. It reminds me that even though i miss her something fierce i know i made the right choice for her. I'm also gettin a flamming blue star tatoo with her name in the middle because her names means my star and its the first one i will ever get. Just wanting her to know that no matter what she is so very much still apart of me.

I'm with my daughter every minute that I'm not at work and she's at school. Besides telling her that I love her when I drop her off at school and when I tuck her in bed, there's no other habits... and rituals are a little off on what you should be doing to your child... I've thought about what I would do if she were to die, and I think I would need to take comfort in the fact that she would be with Jesus in heaven playing with the angels... what other recouse is there?
