Foster/Adoption Q. Those of you who have recently been through this.?

My Husband and I are going through our Homestudy, and wanted to know from those of you who have been through the Foster/Adoption process here recently, what do you have to do in the PVP part? The one lady said it's just an interview at their office, you go in separately. But now that I've made that appt. this lady said we would have to go through 3 small assessments. Do you know what that is? What you have to do?

Never heard of it being that way but if it's the process in your area.... For ours they gave us a pre-assessment package to fill out with all of our personal info, family and relationship history and then they reviewed it prior to meeting with us. We took 3 hours or so to go over it all with the worker then she went away, went over it all and about a month later met with us both, in our home, separately. I just went into the bedroom to watch TV while she talked to my wife and then we switched.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They have their processes to work through. Just answer the questions and it will be fine. Best of luck to you.

Each area and agency likely has their own method and requirements. In our case, we completed a detailed questionnaire and then they came to our house and interviewed each of us both as a group and individually. It was pretty straight forward.

It may be local to your area. We had about 4 visits all together. The first one we had together where the SW looked through our house and asked us questions. The next two were done separate where we answered questions about our personal history and childhood. The last one was just a catch-up of any questions she may have missed. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, but we also did it at our home. Have you gone through training sessions yet? I'm in Ohio and am certified through the county I live in. They have wonderful training sessions set up and do everything while you're in the initial training. It's wonderful because all the questions are asked while it's being done. You may want to check your county children's services if you are not already going through them. Or just see if you can transfer your stuff to another agency that communicates better with you. Good luck!
