Foster Care: Only 14 years old?
|
I have a question about foster care. I'm 14 right now and turning 15 this June. I have been in Foster Care for at least 3 months so far and still continuing. The fear at first being in care was that no one will accept me because I'm 14. I just wish I could just live with a family, just start fresh and just start a life all over. I want to live with a family for the rest of my life, I hate moving around. I want someone that I could call "mom" or "dad". I want to forget everything what happen back then and just start all over. I pray to god everyday. The only thing I could do is pray, just pray for a good future. I'm worried about my future too. I feel like I will be in foster care until I'm 16 and I have to live by myself. Have to get my own home, work, and go to school. It's very difficult, I can't support myself like that. I want to go to University and become a psychologist, historian, scientist, etc. So much stuff is in my way, I don't know what to do. Is there any hope? Will someone accept me?

I've had lots and lots of foster kids come through my door. Over 200. I only take teenagers who are on probation or parole. Our main objective here is to work with the kids and with their families so we can get the home environment stable and get the kids back home. We accept teenagers all of the time. A 17 year old moved in this month. There are many families in our agency who take teenagers. There are a few families in our agency who adopt teenagers. So yeah, I think there is hope. |

Hey-
Listen I grew up in foster care from age 7 until 18, so I am going to be real with you.
Unfortunately, most people don't want to adopt older kids. They want to adopt babies and toddlers. So, it's really hard to accept this....but listen, you sound smart and you want to goto University. Since you are in the foster care system in the US, you can goto some Universities for free. Ask your guidance counselors or caseworkers how......
You need to focus on your education and getting some really good friends. Family is not always about "relatives," but about those that care and accept us ~ that can be friends, mentors, etc.
Sign up for Big Sisters and get a mentor. Someone that you can spend time with and talk to. A Big Sister can be like a "mom," but better cause they don't punish you...... Ask your caseworker how.
Finish highschool, stay out of trouble, and goto university and succeed. That will show everyone. Good luck. |

Hi Hun,
There is always a shot. You will hopefully find someone who will except you and love you for who you are. If you ever need to talk to someone your age message me and I'll be happy to chat. I wish you the best.

My mother fostered children when I was in high school. We had a 13 year old and a 15 year old come into our home that stayed until they were 18 and emancipated themselves. Like were like my sisters and my mom's daughters.
There is always hope and you should never give up. Some families actually would rather have an older child instead of a younger one! I wish you the best of luck in your search and I hope that you stay with the family you are currently with since you seem to really like it., |

seek the face of God. Read through the book of John in a Bible. Honestly...you will not find peace or acceptance apart from God. :o) Chin up! |

Looney Tunes is right, but there is Always hope. I'm so glad you are praying daily. Keep in mind that we never know what long-term plans God has for us, but we do know this: "...All things work for the good for those who love God..." Romans 8:28, I believe.
My husband and I are currently getting certified to adopt an older child/ teen through Associated Catholic Charities here in Texas. If you reside outside of Texas, it would be a lot harder to adopt you should you/ we decide we are a match, but not impossible. We have a 6-year old girl, whom I homeschool, and a 7-month old baby boy.
If you are interested, you can check-out my profile. If nothing else, I would be glad to be there for you if you need someone to talk to via e-mail. I know this all must sound scary... All I can say is take some precautions, and use your best judgement.
God bless you!!! |

Don't give up on yourself or your future. If you really want something in life you can accomplish it. Not everyone who is wanting to adopt is looking for a younger child. Some families would love to adopt an older child. Everyone deserves a forever loving family. |

My aunt who isn't my bio aunt adopted me. But since I am 24 years old she just said that even though your now 24 years old your still going to be apart of my family. I will love you no matter what. She's
my 2nd mom. I was having problems at home and she brought me in as her adopted daughter. And I lived with her for about 1 year. |

This sounds cheesy, but your story made me think of Aladdin- a diamond in the rough.
I KNOW everything will end well with you, because you are praying, and you've got big and useful dreams! Just keep praying. God will put you in the right place at the right time.
I have a friend who has close realtives who just adopted someone from China, and maybe I could relay your story if you want me to.
(If times get rough, feel free to e-mail me: ) |
