Many people do it for that reason yes!!! I do agree, i was in foster care for 13 years so i have seen many different foster families and programs. I have seen families who just take the money and go by themselves things with the money and who pay no attention to the foster kids. And then i have seen the complete opposite. The foster care system is a very messed up system and if you havent been in it then you dont know how bad it is. ( not you directly) I have been hit, punched, slapped in some of the homes, i have been locked in my room, and i have heard tons of other stories from others in foster homes. The sad thing is, i wasnt in there because i was a bad kid, i was in there because my parents lost custody because of abuse. Did you know that 86% of foster kids are in the system becuase of something their parents did? 10% are in it from birth, and 4% are in it for reason they did. Its sad, and yet people still feel the need to have tons of children.

When I was a senior in highschool, my friends and classmates were getting pregnant and going on Welfare. They freely admitted they had no intention of getting jobs. As long as they could pop out kids and stay in the system, they would.

How is that different than the whole foster care system?

Jon & Kate plus 8 prove you can use your kids to make money. Drop a litter, get a TV show and live off donations. Sounds like the new American Dream to me...?

NO, clearly not.

There's 2 ways you can become a foster parent.
Contact CPS and go through the government system.
Go through a private system. There are private homes that foster children. Google it. There will be different facilities for each city.

I am a foster parent and I would like to let you know something. You only get enough money to cover the child for food, gas, shelter and other basic needs and it's hardly enough to do so. You have to keep a record of your receipts.

I don't know where you get your info from but any money, and then some, that I ever received for the care of a child in my home went for the care of that child. There was certainly not any money left over and I honestly can't think of one month when we didn't have to pay out of our own pocket to ensure that there was sufficient food, formula, diapers, clothes, outer wear, toys and furniture for the children. There was also the issue of gas and parking for transport for medical appointments, birth family visits, social workers appointments. Nobody was rushing to cover my expenses for mandatory foster parent training including transport, lunch, time off work when needed and child care for both the foster child and my own children.

Even friends of mine who have 3 special needs foster children and who get special elevated rates for their care are still putting their own money into the care of these children. You can't even put a price on the emotions and caring that they give and nobody stops to factor that into the equation.

So, with all of that having been said, you are free to think what ever you want, however wrong you may be. I certainly do encourage you to grow up and when you do think long and hard about what you want to do in the way of being a foster parent. That way you won't be surprised at all when you find out just what it involves and what it will cost you.

Regardless of the costs, the emotional rewards more then make up for it and THAT is the only way I'm getting rich by being a foster parent, I can assure you of that.

this is funny because a your other answers have said, the money they give you is NOT enough to raise and care for a child. It's about wanting to help a child.
