Foster parent screening questions?

what kinds of questions do they ask you when screening you to be a foster parent. also when they do psychological tests what do they ask you.
its kinda like being nervous about an interview, even if you know you're qualified i just want to know what to expect so im not so nervous.

thanx in advance!

Unless your area is vastly different from most it's not like its going to be an interogation. They just want to sit down and get to know you a bit better, know your family, your spouse (if you have either a family or spouse) and what makes you tick. Its a rather informal process and by that I mean it's relaxed however that doesn't mean it's slip shod. They will ask about what you do as a family, your job, what your traditions are (how you celebrate birthdays, holidays, important milestones), what your experience is in dealing with troubled youth (if you have any experience), what your views are on certain things. When we met with our worker the first time she just talked to us about what the program is like and what could be expected of us. She left us with some questionnaires so that we could fill out the info and let her know more about us. She then read them once we sent them to her and then she came back to clarify some more of the points if she had questions. They just want to get to know you and know that you are aware of what you are getting into. Relax, talk to him/her and just be open and honest. If you are wrong about something like what to expect or how the program works they will clarify it and you will be given a chance to address or clarify any problems they may have with your application.

We were very concerned as well. Like everyone, we had stuff in our past we were concerned would give them pause (nothing illegal). However, the process was pretty straight forward. Unless your process is very different from ours... they will ask the following...

- Your family history. How you were raised, your parenting beliefs, philosophy, and experiences, etc.

- In depth questions about significant events in your life that might impact your ability to foster. Such as, death of someone close to you, abuse you might have suffered, etc.

- What 'support' you have. Do you have friends or family nearby who are likely to help?

- Your finances and your ability to care for the child in terms of time, money, and space in your home. How secure are you in your job.
