Fostering ?

my grandmother is considering fostering. we live in the uk, north west. she is 56 years old and we live in a two bedroomed council house. i am thirteen. i would love for her to foster but would her age be okay? plus, she has a slight disability with her legs. i would love for her to foster too. i was wondering though, if it would be okay for us to foster with the child sharing my room? i wouldn't mind at all and i think i would be okay with almost anyone. my grandmother mentioned she would prefer younger children a while ago and i would prefer either young children or those near or older than me. so, what do you think? Additional Details thanks mandie and oh my what do i do. she showed an interest in looking after younger children though and i have just looked at the local council website on fostering and a child aged between 0 and 2 can stay in the carer's bedroom so that would be okay. =] i know about all the checks and such but what exactly do they check for? also, my grandmother smokes but wouldn't dream of doing that anywhere near the baby. she looked after me and my two first cousins for most of while we were babies. long story there. she also had two kids of her own and has looked after her sisters kids a lot too so she is definately experienced with young children.

Unfortunately a child in care needs their own room. Your grandmother would need to go to her local authority or check in telephone directories for agencies, she will then have various checks done (which can take a while) and would need to go to "panel" to be approved.
I hope this helps |

My friend is a foster carer and she has to have one room for one child, I dont know about the area you live so you would have to find out from the Fostering Department at Social Services. |

when i started fostering my daughters were then aged 4 and 6 years. they shared a bedroom with a child aged 18 months. your gran would have to contacy social services for an application pack and then take the advice given by the social worker who calls to meet you both at home. |

I will be fostering in Ohio, the rules may be different where you are so I would look at your local child services office for exact information. Your Grandma should be able to foster as long as she gets a doctors note saying that she will be physically able to care for a young child. You should also be able to share a room. Here in Ohio, I was told that you can have up to 4 kids a room, but that also depends on the rules in your area. They may also have rules that say that newborns must have their own room. It just depends on area. Look into it (or have your grandma) and have her get signed up for classes (if needed) and a homestudy. |
