Friends, Private Adoption?

My friend has given birth to a beautiful baby girl Friday. Well she has asked to to adopt her child due to "problems" via private adoption... Well, my fiancee and I are currently moving from California to Missouri. So we are currently out of work.We leave the 18th of October. Would that inter fer with the private adoption? Or would I have to do something else...

NO RUDE COMMENTS PLEASE!

A real friend would help her with her "problems" and find a way to help her keep her baby, wouldn't you think?

But, hey, to each his own I guess. Hello baby, goodbye friendship.

I don't know if that is such a good idea. I mean you will have to legally adopt the child, or wait around for your heart to get broken. Maybe she really wants you to adopt, or maybe she wants the baby where she can still be a part of her life. You really need to think this through. It could spell disaster.

Loving my babi girl
you might call someone and ask but welcome to the state im in missouri too

you need to get custody first. Have it in writing with a court signature on it before you take her out of state. then you can proceed with the adoption.
Congratulations, and good luck.

I thought a private adoption was when the parents, on both sides, didn't meet each other and the file was "closed". If this is your friend then wouldn't it be an OPEN adoption?
At any rate, if there is an attorney or person of the such negotiating this deal or approving people for adoption, then I suppose you'd have to show that you could support this child, that you're stable, and that you're ready to have a child. Just because you're moving doesn't make you unstable - at least not in my book.
Good Luck and God bless you for considering adoption.

It will interfere with the adoption, because you'll have to have a home study done. Go to an attorney now, have a permanent guardianship document, complete with the necessary authority to sign for medical treatment, etc, and with her acknowledging that you're moving to Missouri in it. Basically, it will be a consent to adopt form, and you'll take guardianship of the baby, and must be able to support her somehow. You won't be able to get any programs like WIC, food stamps, medicaid, or any others to help during your time off work, because many times, you won't have the documentation, such as the baby's social security number, and birth certificate. See if the hospital applied for one for the first mom, and ask her for this information.

Also, if she and you have discussed this, research the law. In some states, if you're not married, you can't live with a partner until you are, and sometimes, you must be married for 2-3 years before you could legally adopt. It might make the situation where you couldn't have guardianship legally either. You will need to see an attorney immediately to help them, and you will probably have to wait until the adoption is finalized in California before moving to Missouri. Good luck
