Guardianship between two states?

I asked last night about this 16 year old girl who her parents want to put into foster care... some one suggested guardianship rather then adoption. My question is can you become the guardian and have the child move in with you if you live in a different state then she currently does now?

Yes you can.

You may have to go to the state where the child lives and take care of the guardianship process in her state where she currently lives and then take her....call the court clerk if you are on a tight budget. They can not advise you but they can give you the forms and set you up with the judge.

If everyone is in agreement, should not be an issue.

I think if her parents are in agreement. You need to talk to an adoption lawyer and find out which is best ( adoption or guardianship ) They will probably answer those questions over the phone. Good luck. I would do it as quick as possible so she doesn't end up in foster care.
