Has anyone adopted from Guatemala?

Has anyone adopted from Guatemala?

I read an article in the paper about how adoption there is not regulated and laws are very lax but that will change by next year. All of the other countries are now starting to make it more difficult to adopt. Has anybody adopted from Guatemala? Are there other countries that have more lax adoption laws. I'm not talking about black market baby selling here, but somewhere where the process is fairly quick without a lot of red tape. And please, no negative comments. I just want to be a mother

Maybe my question didn't come out right and I do understand the need for a complete home study and background checks, I'm talking about the wait. I don't expect an overnight adoption. And to Lillie and Independ....did it occur to you that I am infertile and have been doing treatments for nearly 4 years!!! As far as my "mentality", I got my information from a newspaper article written by the AP that stated more Americans were going to Guatemala for adoptions because the laws were tightening in places like China and Vietnam. You don't think exploitation happens anywhere else? Think again. And yes, I am currently looking into the foster care system. My paperwork is being processed right now. However, I'd rather adopt than foster a child because of the attachment I'd have to the child. If my situation was as easy as to just get knocked up, I wouldn't be asking about adoption as the primary means to become a mother. Some of you guys are seriously insensitive.

My cousin adopted a baby from Guatemala. They tried other countries first, but since she had depression and was on medication (she's really bad if she's not on the meds), most countries would not allow it. So, they decided to try Guatemala. They went down several times before it could be final though and it took about a year and a half. So, even though some of their laws may be more relaxed, it's still not an easy process. They have a beautiful boy now and are great parents. They said that most babies that get adopted from Guatemala are boys as the girls are usually kept....not for good reasons either. It's actually very sad.

The lax adoption laws is how people get exploited and others exploit others. How could you possible look at Guatemala's adoption program and think it was a good thing? I don't understand.

"And please, no negative comments. I just want to be a mother"

At what expense? Not financially either, but morally.

Adoption should not be a quick process though. Sometimes we have to wait a bit for things we want. It is best to take the long route and have it done right then to take some short cut and have it possible come back to haunt you.

Every route of adoption has a lot of red tape. That red tape is there for the safety and wellbeing of the child. Yes, adoptive parents need to jump through a lot of hoops. Those hoops are there for a reason.

I won't give you a negative comment because almost everyone that adopts from Guate has had the same attitude and mentality you have.

Have you tried having your own baby...no red tape in that.

I adopted my son from Guatemala and judging by the amount of red tape and paperwork I had to go through, I can say it was NOT lax.

Don't believe the hype.
