Has anyone done foster to adopt? ?

Please fill me in on your experience. We would like to try it and got licensed for birth-2 yr. olds. I am somewhat apprehensive because it seems like it is risky to have a child in your home that is not yours and if any little thing would happen to that child, you are questioned. We found this out when doing respite for a one yr. old. He was great, but sometime during the 5 days he was here (and at daycare during the day) he chipped his front tooth slightly. We thought he arrived that way, but apparently not. Well, the bio. mom freaked, and we were called and questioned. Months later we found out this was still being investigated. As first time foster parents, this was our first experience, and it really opened our eyes. It made us wonder, what would have happened if it did happen here, or if he tripped and hurt himself while in our care? We were really hoping to foster/adopt, but I would like to know if it really is this risky? Please let me know your thoughts, negative or positive.

Thank you!

As an AP, I've never experienced this. When my child was sick before finalization, we simply told the case worker all about it and everything was fine. Of course we usually work through Christian agencies, rather than state and, therefore, don't have to deal with all the falderal that goes with that.

Mom to Foster Children
You will find parents like this. Some think EVERYONE is out to get them. Be an advocate for them - listen to them and help them in anyway you can. Document everything you can. It is hard to deal with the parents at times - but they are not all like this. We have had one mother like this and while we were never investigated she complained all the time about bruises (learning to walk in her eyes - should not constitute a bruise) colds...etc. It is hard - especially if you are a foster to adopt family. These children still have ties with their families and you will have to deal with visits and appointments..etc.
