Has anyone done this?

Has anyone ever called an adoption agency pretending to be a pregnant woman considering adoption just to see how they treat you? I'm not talking about fraud: choosing parents, taking money, etc. I'm just talking about a phone call to get a first hand understanding of their "recruiting" tactics for birthmothers. I'd be way too chicken to do this, plus I'm the world's worst actress, but I'd be interested in hearing about it if others did.

No, because I know what they do. As far as the Planned Parenthood comment TOFU posted, the same can be said for a "crisis pregnancy" center. They are insane.

They offer free pregnancy tests, but you have to sit through an hour long video about abortion. Its like when you go on a "free vacation" but have to sit through a presentation about a time share.

Only the presenters are Jesus freaks who just want to save your fetus and soul.

I went to one to get a pregnancy test when I was 17. I sat through their video. They tried to pressure me into having the baby and surrendering it to adoption. I said, "No thanks, I am adopted and would never do that to another human being. Besides, you cant adopt an embryo."

Then got up, went home and told my mom to make me an appointment for an abortion.

Planned Parenthood actually DID offer me information about different options and resources if I wanted to continue with my pregnancy, including adoption agency referrals and WIC information, and food stamps. THAT'S what PRO-CHOICE means. Choices. And INFORMED choices, at that.

And yes, I had an abortion. Much less physical and emotional pain than missing my first Mom my whole life.

Yes, I actually did do this once, out of pure curiosity. I emailed them firstly and then spoke to somebody on the phone. To my surprise they were completely uninterested in speaking with me further, or 'recruiting' me until I made the first move. They asked me to email them when I had had more time to come to a decision and to call them anytime with questions.

Basically, they completely left me alone. They never heard from me again and despite having a phone number and email address they didn't contact me further either.
At the same time, a friend of mine contacted a different agency and had the same experience. I have to admit it completely went against the tactics I believed all agencies used!

No, I haven't, but as an adoptive parent who had considered using an agency, I went and filled out the first set of papers. There were a few pages that I was told to check "Yes" to on every line to open up my options. It was also explained to me at that time, that I didn't have to worry about open adoption, because it wasn't legally enforceable.

As a woman who wishes to adopt only through open adoption, I was shocked and appalled that without them knowing me, and without them knowing that I actually felt very strongly about open adoption. My first instincts were, if they'd have me lie about anything, it wasn't worth the damage it'd do. I know that in adoption, someone suffers loss. I've done a lot of helping mothers keep their children rather than place them, and I only want to adopt a child who will have a better home with me mostly in the love and attention categories. I'm a hopeful adopting parent who wants the best life for a child, only through open adoption, which our state doesn't do through foster care, and I won't go through an agency because they didn't care if anyone lies on their paperwork, and encourage people to lie in order to get their money. They need to realize that human lives on every part of the triad are affected by the decisions made, and will forever be affected no matter what the outcome of deciding about the adoption. Their monies need to be spent more on making sure the homes are right and the situation right for both the first parents and the adoptive parents, but most of all for the children involved. I'd much rather spend an extra $500 on a counseling for a pregnant woman to make sure she knows her resources and rights than I would like to see a fancy brocade chair in the adoption agency's office and a diamond ring on the fingers of the agency worker.

No. But I am willing to do so. What are some good questions to ask. I've never been pregnant... so what should I need to know for this phone call?

I will report back honestly. Actually, the email idea is probably better... proof... no twisting of words...

I'll try this weekend...
==================
I need to create a hotmail account so I don't use my own. I'll keep you posted.

I know someone who was pregnant and scared and contacted an agency. In the "light of the day", she realized that she could never give her baby away and told her family who were thrilled to have a new baby on the way.

She was hounded relentlessly by the agency.

No, but this is a good idea. Try an email instead, it may be easier and the internet is widely used for this type of thing so it may be easier to do :P

I have, through email. It has been 3 or 4 months since I made contact and I have received about 30 emails. I have not responded to any but they keep coming.

I have plans to go to my local agency and pose as a potential barf mother but they are stalled while I recover from surgery. Hopefully by next week or so I can get that ball rolling.

No, but it's an interesting thought.

I have had a similar idea though, I HAVE considered getting together a group of pro-life young women experiencing early pregnancy and sending them undercover to planned parenthood for prenatal care just to see how hard they push abortion. I respect what they do with providing birth control.. but I've heard several people say things like "you don't leave there pregnant." I'm curious as to just what lies and tactics they use to convince the women it's no big deal.. it's probably for the best.. Not alot different from unscrupulous adoption agencies IMO.. I believe abortion clinics are no more honest and upfront with the women about the potential psychological effects afterward than adoption agencies are.. I think it's just as wrong.

My sister-in-law (pro-life mother of two children) went there (because it was cheaper) for an IUD and they gave her one and while they had her attention they proudly touted their abortion services (if she were to get pregnant despite the IUD) She was sickened, as was I when I heard it...
