Has anyone planned their adoption properly so they could breastfeed their baby?

Has anyone planned their adoption properly so they could breastfeed their baby?

Would you please share your experience with induced lactation?
I have breastfed a baby before, so it may make it easier for me to lactate.
My daugther is only 13 and she is pregnant. She agreed to let me breastfeed the baby because she is uncomfortable with it.

If you are not currently pregnant, or have given birth recently, you might want to read this....

Lactation without pregnancy typically occurs in women of childbearing age, mostly affecting women between the ages of 16 and 40. It is commonly causes by high levels of hormones in the system due to a number of factors. The high hormone levels can be caused by natural bodily changes that occur for every woman at specific points in her life. The high levels of hormones may also be a side effect of taking certain medications and the lactation will cease once the medications are out of the woman’s system. Other reasons why lactation may occur include an unnoticed miscarriage, which may be dismissed as a painful menstrual period, and a glandular issue causing a hormonal imbalance.

Although lactation without pregnancy is generally harmless, it may be an indication of a greater problem. If the lactation is caused by a hormonal imbalance, it is very important for the hormonal imbalance be corrected before it can cause more serious issues.

If a woman is experiencing lactation without pregnancy, she should be examined by her medical professional as soon as possible to ensure that her health is not in jeopardy. The medical professional will be able to find the reason for the lactation and be able to advise the woman on the best course of action to take to remedy the situation. If the condition is caused by a natural adjustment in the hormones of the body, the only course of action may be to wait until the levels of hormones have adjusted to the proper amounts.

Lactation without pregnancy may be benign, but may also be a symptom of a greater issue. All cases of lactation in the absence of pregnancy should be examined by a medical professional to ensure that the woman is still healthy and there are no underlying issues that could cause harm to the woman. Most cases of non-pregnancy lactation resolve themselves in time, but in rare cases, medical intervention may be needed.

I think it's lovely that your being so supportive of your daughter, however it's not impossible for her to breastfeed and it might help her bond with the baby.

Also she is probably a little scared of becoming a mother, but when the baby is born, she might change her mind.

I had my daughter quite young and breastfeeding came so naturally, after she was born i put her straight to my breast and continued for 2 1/2 years.

If you breastfeed your grandchild then it's the first step to you becoming it's full time mother, is that what you want?

If she herself is uncomfortable breastfeeding her baby, how do you think it will be to see her mother breastfeed her baby??? Back off and be a grandmother and support her and her baby the best you can, be it as a grandmother, or legal guardian until she gets older.

It would really be better for your daughter to feed the baby. Induced lactation doesn't provide the same nutritional benefits, since colostrum is produced only by the biological mother. If the biological mother is present and available, it really should be her who nourishes the baby.

If your daughter really doesn't want to nurse the baby herself, she can pump and bottle feed. That would be healthier-- and frankly, simpler-- than you attempting to breastfeed the baby yourself.

I'm a bit concerned that your daughter is so uncomfortable with breastfeeding. If she thinks it's gross, is the aware of what's involved in delivery, and that she will lactate anyway until her milk supply dries up? If she's concerned it will cause physical discomfort, is she prepared for labour? If she's concerned she'll get too attached to the baby, would that really be such a horrible thing, even if you are the primary caretaker?

Basically, I see no valid reason for you to need to breastfeed your own daughter's baby, since your daughter is around to feed her own child, even if she decides to pump instead of nursing.

are you adopting this baby? if not, forget about breastfeeding; you'll only confuse this baby as to who the real mother is. hormone induced lactation is no better for baby than formula. i breastfeed my son and i won't even drink a cup of coffee, i would NEVER take a ton of chemicals and feed him that milk. Aside from the harmful chemicals you would need to jumpstart your milk supply, you would never supply enough for the baby, you would still have to supplement with formula. i know "breast is best" but poisoned breast is the worst. if you're pro breastfeeding you'll remember how important colostrum is for a newborn and only your daughter can give the baby that. if she nurses the baby in the hospital her milk supply will come in after a few days. get her a dual electric or battery operated breast pump, this way she can bottle her milk and give it to her baby. If she refuses to pump than you should just stick to enfamil lipil formula, it has a lot of great nutrients and iron; they supplemented this for my son at the hospital. You're trying to be a wonderful grandma and I understand your need for giving this baby what is best for him/her but as a grandmother, you can't take over motherly responsibilities.

OK, get a pump and start doing it the same times everyday, so your milk will come in. Then momma you got it. This is a very unselfish thing for you to do. You will be in my thoughts.

You can also look up the questions that have been asked about it before on YA, and if there are any more ongoing threads, just enter 'induced lactation' in the 'search for questions' box at the top of the page. There's some stuff on the web about it as well if you do a Google search.
