Have Any Other Adoptees Who've Reunited had any Health Issues Resolved?

I reconnected with my Mom this year and she has shared information with me that has been really helpful health-wise
My doctor has been able to get to the bottom of a health problem of mine that's baffled him for years, just like that! I feel much better
Has anyone else had positive benefits from family health information given by their natural families?
Additional Details ETA; I found Mom in March and have mentioned it many times in my Q's since then.
Mom was thrilled, as was my Adoptive Mum who knocked on my door with a bunch of flowers to celebrate with me.
We have exchanged pictures and stories and couldn't be happier, thanks
p.s. She didn't feel 'hunted down' in fact she was relieved. You see, they told her I'd died at 3 days old.

I did find out that I am at increased risk for certain cancer and other health problems. It is good to know so that I can get appropriate screenings early, and it will also be beneficial for my daughter to know. |

Personally, I did not. But my genetic history affects a lot more people than just me! I did discover that I could be a carrier of several genetically transmitted conditions. My kids will appreciate that info some day. |

i didn't have any health issues or questions but i do think i'm going to have some problems with my knees in the future. I don't think it's anything i'll be able to avoid via excercise or diet though. it seems as though both sides are relatively healthy although my paternal bgrandmother died at 77 of heart problems. come to think of it though, i've never heard my bdad talk about his dad.... my maternal gramma had some depression issues and was just diagnosed with parkinsons and is in the early stages of dementia now as well.
lol, one of her first questions in reunion was in regards to a particular anatomy and she said "wait 'til you meet the rest of us -- you'll see what I mean" lol
i can't say that i feel relieved knowing my health history but it is a little more info than i had before.
Yesterday, i was increasing my life insurance for my daughter/granddaughter's sake and mike and i were talking about that and i asked him if lack of health history was an issue and he said absolutely not in the case of adoption not to worry about it. He's sold lots of policies to people without health histories due to adoption and it was pretty much an ok and just move on. I've never had a doctor look at me strange due to my previous lack of health history either but i can see how some people would really want that info.
Although i'm not all for reunion (hmmm, duh lol), i do think that bparents should be required to update their health histories every 5 years or so because even if they provide one at relinquishment, it'll be outdated 45 years later when othe rproblems may crop up.
I knew you were searching but didn't know you had found her. A transatlantic search must have been difficult but have you now made arrangements for a F2F? have you all exchanged pics? did you get info on bfather too? |
