Yep....human rights are not being violated with adoption.
They used the same tactics in Guatemala.....kids will get an education and be returned or you will have the option of moving to the states to be with them.
Notice how the say they say "dozens"....it annoys me especially when they know its in the thousands.
I would give these people the death penalty never mind probation. |

"[The] U.S. Attorney's Office has worked very hard with us. I have to say I am grateful to them for their judgment, for their willingness to try to balance all of the competing interests in this case," said defense attorney Rebecca Hyde Skordas. "
....for their willingness to try to balance all of the competing interests.?????? ..... that says it all.
Who has the clout here - certainly not the natural parents or the children who have been wronged.
this is totally obscene... |

I agree with you wholeheartedly. All the negotiations that go on in our courtrooms everyday make me sick. |

Five years probation for 135 counts. That's 13.51 days probation for each count. Plus a press conference, of course. What a deterrent. Gosh, I bet no one will even dream of doing that again.
Talk about a miscarriage of justice. |

The natural parents of those children should be given back their children. If you buy stolen goods, the onus is on you to ensure that you have not. You have to give them back. Same with buying a child from an adoption agency. Sure the agency says the children were not stolen, but do you have proof, or are you too desperate to do your "due diligence"? |
|

IDK!!

Good thing the didn't get into credit card fraud, they'd be in "Max" for 20 years. |

"In exchange for the guilty pleas the prosecution is recommending five years probation instead of prison time. Under the terms of the plea deal, Scott and Karen Banks will also have to hold a press conference to inform the public about the importance of doing adoptions correctly."
Well, that seems an appropriate punishment for basically engaging in child-trafficking.
*sigh* |

Despicable. I would be very interested in hearing the Banks very good reasons for why they are not the devil.
This is a tragedy for everyone: all sets of parents and especially the children. Despite the negativity some have for IA parents, I believe you'd be hard-pressed to find one who is glossing over the fact that their children were wrongfully taken from their parents. They are probably devastated.
I do hope something can be worked out between all the parents to the benefit of the children.
P.S. If they are not going to jail, I hope the Banks and their ilk enjoy lives as social pariahs. |

Thank you for bringing it to my attention,
sounds pretty bad.
but then again that's the way the system is going these days.
prime example is Bethany christian services is selling baby's and children to the highest bidders. |

Once again we see what justice is for natural parents. There is none, not in this country! Thanks Sly, once again you expose the dregs of the adoption industry and not one person will give a good s hite! When will there be justice for our children and others children? |

Sick... yet not surprising. They couldn't be punished too badly as it would give adoption a bad name and they couldn't do that now, could they. Typical.
What a sad, sad world we live in. |

I think they should get harsher punishment for what they did.
But I don't think the "wrist slapping" is solely because this is "adoption"
Do you know ANYTHING about our judicial system??
Criminals... horrible criminals.. get wrist-slappings ALL the time, or disgustingly reduced sentences, as part of plea-bargains..IT's wrong.. but it's just the way it's done
it makes me sick all the time.. but it has nothing to do with adoptions.
The fact of our judicial system is: the criminals have more rights than the victims.
For example: a rape victim, if she wants a restraining order against a stalker who could have been the rapist.... IF she wants SOME method of protection, she must surrender her address to be given to the suspect. After all.. he has to know where he can't go!
But where HE lives..HIS address.. so she can stay the he** away from him? That information is confidential.. |

This doesn't just happen with adoption matters, it unfortunately happens in many different types of criminal proceedings. When the court finds a way to dispose of the case while still "serving the interests of justice" (ie: getting a conviction) they will do so to save money and time.
Do I dislike what happened in the article...sure. Do I dislike it any more then other types of plea bargain deals...no. Bad deals are bad deals whether they involve adoptions or not. |
