We got together with our daughter's natural family last week. I love seeing my daughter interact with her birth mom, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins! I wouldn't have it any other way! My daughter was so excited to see them. I can't imagine not allowing her to have them in her life! It makes me sad that so many people either have a closed adoption or were promised an open adoption and they aren't able to see their children, especially during holidays and birthdays! My heart goes out to all of you who are are in these situations! I can't imagine how tough it must be! |

Hi. We are not allowed to let our son see his mother just yet....but we are sending her a ton of pictures of him for Christmas, and some artwork (scribbling) for her to have. We are going to visit our son's half brother right after Christmas, and we will have his foster family over to our house during the holidays. They had him from 7 days old, so they obviously love and care for him very much!

ETA: Andraya: I am so very sorry that your son is being kept from knowing you and your daughters. |

Technically I am in an open adoption. I spend the holidays mourning the loss of my son and wishing he could at least see pictures of his beautiful sisters. I buy him an ornament every year, something to do with firefighting or Pooh Bear since that was his thing as a toddler, I also write out a card. |

Our families live in different states, and due to various work and personal issues this year we won't be able to get together with everyone.
The last 2 years we had his first mom and dad, grandparents, great grandma, and aunt visit around the holidays/his birthday as DS's bday is New Year's.
This year his first mom is going to meet us on a couple day birthday getaway over that weekend, then come stay with us for a few days. We will be attending her wedding in June.
We just took our vacation to their state a few months ago, and got to spend a few days with each "leg" of his family. It was fun. His grandparents are coming to visit Spring Break. |

My adoption was closed but I found my son 4 years ago, so it's rather open now. But he spends he holidays, all of them, with his adopted family, of course, because that's who he knows. They live about 90 minutes away so it's kind of far for him to do both, and I don't want to take away from his time with family and friends since he's in college and only sees them at the holidays.
I wish he would come over sometimes and get to know us more, but at his age, he's only interested in kids his age. |
