Honest Adoption Agencies?
|
My husband and I are looking to adopt. We've considered doing Semi Open adoption and will cover all medical costs and legal costs, doing a private family adoption or going through an adoption agency. We're really nervous about using an agency as we have a couple of friends who were "ripped" off. Never actually got to meet the child they were told they were adopting and paid nearly $20,000. We don't want this to happen to us. Know of any agencies that are trustworthy? Additional Details For the First Comment person -
Let me also explain that yes - they were ripped off. The received pictures of a child that probably wasn't even up for adoption. The agency wasn't actually an agency. It was all a scam. I'm sure they would have been sad but would have completely understood if the child's parent had been able to keep her.
Also - I did NOT say that this was out of country or that I was looking for something out of the country.
Please keep judging negitive comments to yourself. Keep in mind that some people are just out for money.

Firstly, paying someone elses expenses is a form of coercion and should be illegal IMO (actually it IS illegal in many civilized nations)
Most agencies will tell you that you are not guaranteed a baby in return for your $20,000
Can't recommend honest agencies, because I don't believe they exist. Its a self-regulating industry where infants are a commodity; quite nauseating.
It doesn't cost money to adopt a child who really needs one. |

Nope can't recommend any honest ones.
They are in business to make money and the laws protect them so they do what they can to get away with the dough even fraudulently milking Aps out of money.
If the Christian based ones are anything like their charitable organizations, I would avoid them. There are too many middlemen with their hands out. I read an article by an Ap that was complaining how she ended up getting milked for $70,000 for adopting a Guatemalan child who had undisclosed health problems and had died 2 yrs after she adopted him. She wanted her money back or a replacement, nice huh?.
Try foster care...you may not get a baby or toddler but there are plenty of children over the age of 5 that need a structured family and home.
As far as unethical prebirth matching....its only fraud when a child is seperated from their mother against her wishes.
Those Paps should be happy for the girls that choose to keep their babies. Nature is a beautiful thing especially when its being nurtured and not negated. |

Call your local DHS. There are over 100,000 children in foster care waiting for an adoptive family. They will never be returned to their original families, and they will sit in foster care until an appropriate adoptive family comes along. Foster care won't scam you (in most states, anyway...please do your research, and PLENTY of it, before you start the process no matter how you choose to adopt), and it's free in most states. |

it's all about the money. |

Their ALL non profit aren't they? Doesn't that make you wonder where all that money goes if the agency is never allowed to show a profit.
As far as trustworthy and rip offs. It depends which side of adoption your on. If your on THEIR SIDE, their trust worthy. EVERYBODY ELSE gets ripped off. |

We used Adoptions From the Heart and would highly recommend them. Even our son's birth family has complimented the services we all received.

I would check with some local churches and talk to some pastors and let them know you are looking to adopt and you could go the private route they could pass your name on to a girl or woman looking to give up there child they are pregnant with for what ever reason. If you want to the way of a placement agency I would go through you local child and family services some time they handle this kind of thing too then you would most likely only have the expense of your attorney.( but I can't say for sure on the money thing) And If you don't mind a little though from someone who is adopted please have a open record adoption. This is for the benefit of the child who may someday want to meet his or hers birth family. And if the record are closed it can a very hard thing to dale with good luck and god bless. |

A friend of mine adopted through "All God's Children". They are out of Oregon. The famiy did much research and several trips to other countries for mission work. They assured me this is trustworthy, and it seems to be a charity type agency...check out the website. |

It is scary. You put all of your money and hopes on these so called agencies, only to get messed over in the end. As if adoption isn't emotional enough !!
I don't know of any by name. The best thing you can do is ask around: maybe go to some forums for adoption and ask if they know of a way to find legit agencies. Google for agencies then research the heck out of them. It will take some time, but its worth it in the end. Also, you may contact an adoption lawyer and ask if they can recommend any reputable agencies to go through.
Obviously, legal documentation is essential. Make sure everything is documented, get timelines, make sure the agency signs these documents, etc. Make sure to cover your side of things, even if you think you're over doing it. You have to be careful because unfortunately there are people who want to take advantage of those searching for a child.
Best of luck !!!! |

We used an agency that I liked a lot, and I feel they are very ethical. However they only serve the northern california region (san francisco area). If you're not located there it won't help you. If you're in that area let me know and i'll post the name. |

The Cradle in Illinois is a non-profit agency that opened its doors in 1923.
They have extensive support programs for those touched by adoption. For domestic adoption, they firmly stand behind openness.
The approval process took us about fifteen months. We met our daughter's natural mother two months later and our daughter came home shortly thereafter when she was five weeks old.
It's a challenging approval process, but the people at the Cradle truly care about children and parents. "Rip off" is not in their vocabulary.
I send you peace.
