Hoping to adopt?
Find answers to your legal question.

Hoping to adopt?

I was hoping that maybe someone has some suggestions. My husband and I have children. We decided we would like to have one more child. We would like to adopt because, we would like to give a child a loving and stable home that needs one. My husband an I would like to do a private adoption instead of go through an agency. We have have been wanting to adopt for a year and half. I never realized it would take this long. I want our new baby to be close in age with our other children. Since we haven't found a match yet I am starting to get sad. I know there are so many children that need good home. Now this is my question how would you suggest I go about meeting someone who wants a private adoption. Please don't bash the reason we want to adopt is to give a child that needs one a good life. Thanks everyone

Love,
Michelle

I think it is illegal to look for a baby on craigs list but, thanks.

It is illegal to buy a baby. I can't give you money for your baby!!!!!!!!!! Sorry.

Wow that's hard. I know of a couple who tried for years and eventually gave up on American children and adopted 4 Chinese children at different times. Baby adoptions are REALLY hard to get. If you want to give an unwanted child a new home, how about adopting an older child?

I would go through foster care.

What I wouldn't suggest you do is go to another country and try and convince a woman struggling with her 5 children to give one of them up because you can give the child more financially. This is happening more and more in Guatemala now that the govt is changing the adoption policies. Its so insulting to the birth mothers and you could put your life in danger if you go to a village or city that had children stolen by facilitators or children were murdered for organs. I was just up in Quetzaltenango and a couple from Michigan were arrested and released for trying to bribe a young Mayan family.

Have you considered foster care? There are many children in foster care who need loving and caring homes, just like what your family is hoping to provide. You may want to contact your local county's Division of Youth & Family Services to speak to them about becoming a foster parent.

Good luck to you!

To be honest, you best bet is adopting a waiting child. It takes a lot less time to wait and you'd be helping a child that has been in the foster care system. There are a lot of babies out there that would benefit from a caring family. We too are wanting another child and suffer from 2nd time infertility. We are still under going fertility treatments and I believe that adoption is going to be the way we have to go. If/when we do adopt it will be a waiting child for the fact that I can't stand the idea of a baby being stuck in foster care. Another option is foster to adopt...we're in the process of becoming a licensed foster home so that we could be presented with this opportunity. That way you build a bond with the child while waiting to the adoption to go through. Hope this helps.

do a search engine but there are long waits, me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for 5 years and nothing yet we were hoping to adopt but have been waiting, best of luck to you.

Just be really careful. There are some people scamming when it comes to this. You might want a lawyer to be in on this from the start. Best of luck to you.

~Water Bug.... Really? Wow. What do your parents say about that?

First of all congratulations! What a noble and loving thing to do. My husband and I tried to adopt at the end of last year and some things fell through (After we were approved) but we were going through the social services in our county. The services we also going to pay for all fees and legal costs during the adoption process. There are not a lot of kids in the system here and we decided to change our course but there are county organizations through out the states that assist in legal adoptions. This is the route we would have gone. We had a wonderful man assisting us through the process and he made everything so easy. Good luck to you. Also, you can check with local churches in your area.

I would suggest that you adopt at the age five. The age five is the perfect age to adopt, because the child can go to school and can be pointed in the right direction. Any age above five the child will already be set in his/her's own ways (good and bad). At five you can kinda change their mind set (for the better)

i think thats a good idea and nice that you want to adopt a child and give him a home i think you when you do tell them how much you want one and want to give the child a family and a home.

The advantages include:

Greater control over choice for birth parents and adoptive parents. Private adoption allows all parties involved to make choices about the baby and each other. For many, the opportunity to meet provides added reassurance that decisions are being made in the best interests of the child.

More information. Direct contact means more extensive background information for the child, including medical, social, and religious histories.

More immediate bonding. Private adoption allows the newborn baby to bypass foster care in a temporary home or an orphanage. Indeed, most babies adopted privately come home from the hospital with the adoptive parents, so the bonding process begins immediately.

Chance of shorter search. Compared with agency adoptions, the search times for infants may be shorter.

Run a newspaper ad. Craigslist (I'm serious). Tell everyone you know you are looking.

It is not illegal to say you are looking for a private adoption on craigslist. It is illegal to BUY a baby. (ah hem water bug though you're likely just a troll)

Craiglist isn't like ebay it isnt just buy and sell.

To add to steve K's below-Russia is another good source. They have a lot of abandoned babies.
