A fast adoption happens when an adoptive couple with flexible ethics meets a desperate pregnant woman who doesn't know very much about her rights as a natural mother.

Have you read "Fast Track Adoption" by Susan Burns? Did you know that the mother who she "fast tracked" to get her daughter committed suicide when she found out that Ms. Burns wrote a book about how to court and woo pregnant women to get their babies? And that Ms. Burns promised an open adoption, but did not live up to her promises? I can't help but wonder how Ms. Burns will explain what she did to her daughter.

Is that what you really want?

There are thousands of children in foster care who need loving and caring homes.

I know!! It's like waiting in line for Space Mountain, isn't it?
I mean geesh...a young Mother has to go through 9 months of growing her baby inside of her and then hand over her child to a stranger, and "I want a baby AND an Oompah Loompah NOW , Daddy!"

Heaven forbid an adoptive parent wait any longer than it takes for their check to clear.

"Fast Track" adoptions are the most coercive adoptions on the planet- dont want to give a young mother a chance to changer her mind, do we?

You don't want to give a child a loving or caring home, you want a womb wet infant to make yourself feel better because you cant have one of your own. If you wanted to give a child a loving and caring home, you would adopt a child from Foster Care. They are the ONLY kids who need homes.

You are so right. You should totally be able to get a baby fast! They could make like, a seven eleven, but selling babies 24 hours so there is like totally NO wait so like whenever you want one, you can like get one!

Are you talking about so called "fast track" adoptions? If so... For shame on you.

Do you really want to tell your little adoptling that you had a hand in his or her mother's ultimate demise? These fast track adoptions kill people, they are highly coercive and highly unethical. They are down right revolting.

I am with Jackie. I know you are impatient and excited....but you seriously need to go back the truck up and start over in getting a really big education of all of the facets of adoption if you are serious about this. Frankly--the "wanting to be a parent" - while a plus--is the LAST thing on the list that is important in the whole adoption equation.

If the "fast option" is the only thing you are thinking about--go the DSS route and adopt--there are a ton of kids who need homes NOW.

I saw the book on fast track adoption and was tempted to pick it up and I'm glad I didn't. Stay away from a lot of the books you see in book stores like "The Complete Adoption Guide" or "Adoption for Dummies" anything like that, seriously because they fail to address a lot. They tell you "how" and that's about it. I'm sure you'll be getting a lot of links and recommended reading from other answers that will address adoption beyond the "how". You need to read the books on the dark side of adoption to get a complete picture. One more to add to that list that had a huge effect on me "The Other Mother" by Carol Schaefer. If you can get through that and still adopt a newborn (whose mother relinquished solely for financial reasons or family/societal pressure)... well, I really just don't know what to say.

kateiskate: lol snarky, but funny. Brings out the repressed Valley Girl in me...

""I know!! It's like waiting in line for Space Mountain, isn't it? ""

Thank you ! Nearly wet myself reading that! LOL!

Yep...gimme, gimme, gimme now....I's can't stand the wait!

Adoptions should never be fast and there should always be a sufficient waiting period.

Take your time, think about it and maybe even keep a journal.
