How, besides agencies & foster care, do people find children to adopt?

I was able to adopt a baby, now 6 months old, by a friend telling me about a wonderful woman who couldn't keep her baby. I've been through the hoops with the system, and have had home study and criminal checks. Now I'd like to adopt another child, and was wondering ideas, like if advertising works. How did you find children to adopt in private adoption??? We found private adoption was much easier, it's just locating a child that's the problem.

Networking!!!!!!!! Be positive.
Tell everyone you know and have a conversation with about the joy of your 6 month old adopted child and how much your family wants to add another child through adoption. Tell doctors, nurses, teachers, preachers, ladies at the hair salon, etc.
I have known 2 people just like you that have adopted a baby through an acquaintances that knew them and a baby and made the introduction.
Register with reputable agencies.
Put your family story on line at one of the national reputable sites.
There are lot's of con artists out there. You need to pay an attorney or agency to screen out solicitations and protect your privacy.
My Assistant at works brother and sister-in-law just adopted their second baby by having their family profile on-line. It works for some people.
From what I understand, adoptable infants do not go into foster care, but directly to privately contracted agencies. Most of the infants that come into foster care are either drug addicted or the parental rights have not yet been relinquished. We've met people who have adopted infants by being foster parents first, but it's no guarantee and many infants can rotate through their doors.
Be proactive and don't wait!!! |

Hi Sizesmith,
My personal opinion is that advertising for children anywhere or for expectant mothers is offensive. Basically, those are children who are not yet, and may never be, available for adoption. It is extremely expensive, risky, the ethics are questionable, and the odds are not in your favor. (90 to 1)
The children who are available for adoption now are in foster care. Those are the children who have no families to care for them. They currently have no permanent homes. If your home has already been approved, the wait will not be long, and the cost will be minimal to free.
Remember, adoption is about finding the right homes for children who do not have parents. It is not about shopping to find babies for people who want them, particularly for the ones who are very specific about what child they will find worthy of their love (age, gender, race, w/siblings, etc.)
Children who need homes are really not hard to locate. Prospective parents who don't believe that should broaden their range of acceptable children. Thank you.

There are over 100,000 children in the foster care system that many states would even pay something to have you bring the child into your home.
Thats about all I can say to you now and remain respectful after this shallow question. |

"it's just locating a child that's the problem."
Oh that part is easy, just go to the website and click on your city, it will pop up all the baby store locations in your area.
Good luck. |

NO NO advertising that is illegal it is border on baby buying.
I know a lady who adopted her coworkers child. She is white and was having a biracial baby. She was afraid of being disowned by her family so she asked my friend who is a black woman to adopt him. She also went through the process and it was all legal |

i donno...hell, try ebay.
seriously, this question is mildly offensive. children are not commodities to buy and sell. and contrary to what people wish to believe, there isn't a clan of knock'd-up women gestating kids so that others can become parents.
if you want to adopt again, please, go through the proper legal process. |

Many people place ads in newspapers or magazines. I found by sons adoptive parents through a family member who found them through their church. Someone will almost always know someone who knows someone who is looking for adoptive parents. there are special agencies that deal with birth moms and they can help as well. There is one in VT called Friends in Adoption. I am sure that there is something similar in your state. |

ask government associations...they deal with it especially, kids in the foster system are not for adoption but just temperary or permenately taken away from there parents, the parents still have a right to there own child and its still there own child |

Why don't you start with the Street Children. They have no parent or guardian to watch them and educate them. You can find these children in any major city in any country. |
