How can I find my Birth mother?
Find answers to your legal question.

How can I find my Birth mother?

I have tried to get my birth mothers last name and cant seem to find it. Does anyone know of some resources available to help me search for her? I have her first name the year of her birth and the city she was born in. I cant get my original birth certificate until I know one of my birth parents first and last name, then they will release the original certificate to me. Please don't tell me to ask my adoptive parents, they don't want to help me find my birth parents, (that is a whole other issue). Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Additional Details
I live in Texas, Harris county.

I am in the same peanut butter sandwich. I am too young to find her but search local newspapers. Put an ad in the newspaper in the city you were born in. Alert radio stations and local news networks, they could run a little segment thing. Good luck! Email me if you find info on how. I am going to try, just be careful about your APs knowing. Do you live in their house still? Because if so, erase your search history on the internet.
I wish you the greatest amount of luck.

Hi! Congrats on your decision to search, it's not an easy one...so many emotions involved.

I do not know where you live. If you are in the US, each state has different laws pertaining to an adoptees original birth certificate.

I would research the laws where you live. You can also contact the adoption agency or lawyer who handled your adoption.

Also, register with any and all online search registries.

Do you have any volunteer organizations in your area? I had no luck on my search for what felt like forever, then asked for help. They took my non identifying information, along with what they could glean from my adoption order, and went from there. Prior to asking for help, I looked at microfilms of newspapers at the local library, checked out yearbooks at the highschools in the city, joined any and all registries online that I could find along with the provincial registry.

Best of luck to you in your search!

Personally, I like this list for ideas of where to look for more information.

I "googled" my birth mother, and found her, We have been in contact for a whole year come December 22. She is a very important person in my life now.
It sounds weird, but it is such a powerful resource.
So many people use the internet and it is easier than ever to track them down.

It would really help people to advise you if you state where you were born and adopted since the discriminatory rules differ so much from place to place

In the meantime ensure you are registered with ISRR.net and http://registry.adoption.com/

And don't worry, people find with less information than you have. I'm just so sorry that adoptees are so discriminated against when all they are asking for is the facts of their own lives.

Just remember, mothers don't seal our records - the State does.

TX can be an easy state to search depending on what years you need searched. If you want to contact me privately I can take a look at your info and see if I can help

Kris, have you contacted the court in Harris County and asked what their policy is for an adoptee to petition the court to make contact with their first mother? In many states you can do that. Google the website for that court and see if you can download a petition or if not, just call them to ask. I'm from PA and adoptees in Pa can either use the form provided by the court or send a letter to the judge telling them they would like to get their non-identifying information and have an intermediary appointed to make contact. You lose control of your search but sometimes that's the only way you can do it.

How old are you, by the way? Some states have age limitations on how old you need to be to search.

Also, was your adoption handled by an agency? If so, contact them to ask for your non-id as well. Ask if your bmom has made contact looking for you and send a Waiver of Confidentiality to both the court and agency.

Also, register with the International Soundex Reunion Registry ISRR - you can find their website online.

ummmm....last i knew, texas was a sealed state. it doesn't matter if you hve her first name, last name, social security number, or her personal permission.....those records are sealed.

"With the codification of the Family Code by the 63rd legislature in 1973, a significant change was made relating to confidentiality. The law established the Central Record File. Thereafter all adoption decrees and records were transmitted to the State Department of Public Welfare and were held confidential."

if you are 18 you can go to the salvation army and fill out a form there. it will cost like $80 but i know its what my friend did to find her mum after trying for 9 years. also try your farther if possible , he will know and might not like to give it to you but you have to keep talking to him and telling him you need that info. do any extended family members know? i like the idea of advertising in mags or papers and there are websites dedicated to finding lost ones. those are actually really good websites.

Well, school records. If you are 18 you could try to get her name through a court case or, you could try some sites online!!!!
