How can I find my biological mom? NY laws?

I know NY laws are strict on adoptions, but I have also heard of New Yorkers finding their biological parents. What's the first step? All I know is the day, the hospital and the agency. I don't have a name or birth time. I am not looking to interfere in her life, I just want the opportunity to thank her for giving me a wonderful life. I would also like to know more about where I came from. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't know my last name at birth...if I even had one.

I found in NY State with less info that you have. You can get more info from the State Adoption Information Registry - make sure you tick all the 4 boxes at the top of the form (available online) http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/adoption.htm

They have dumb restrictions about who can register (ie you have to be born AND adopted within NY State to register - that rule leaves alot of people out in the cold and also if someone is deceased they cannot register) the registry is flawed but worth registering if you understand that a relative not matched does NOT mean they are not willing to be found or that they are not looking. My mother was willing to be found and had looked for me too, but had never heard of the registry at all and had never used a computer either !, so don't lose hope.

If you were born in any of the five boroughs of New York State you WILL be able to get your birthname. Edit your question to say where you were born.

Register at these registries - you could be matched

There is a great yahoo search group for NY too with good people offering each other support and free search help.

ps. I don't believe you would interfere with her life. I think you would bring her peace. I think it's a courtesy to let the person who carried us and gave birth to us to at least know what became of her baby.

first step would be trying to figure out the doctor....second i believe they have to have records at the hospital..... most doctors remember adoptions.....try to talk with them and see what you could get out of the doctor......it is agenst there rules (HIPPA) but i am sure most will do it...
