How can I produce breast milk without being pregnant?

C Wood
It can be done, but it takes time and determination.
Contact La Leche League for help and advice; they are nursing experts.
A pediatrician I know used to say anyone could nurse a baby, even a man with the proper stimulation and time and patience.

Google how to become a wetnurse. Maybe you can find information that way.

Hi there.
It can be done, but isn't easy. You can either get hormone injections that mimic the natural state of a nursing mother OR by repeated "milking" actions (from a baby or a pump) of the breasts over time some milk will eventually come (oddly, this can happen to men too, we are all mammals!).
Otherwise, the job of wet-nurse wouldnever have existed. the quality of the milk is a lot lower than if produced after pregnancy, which is why wet-nurses were higher value if they had had a child themselves and just never stopped feeding.
cheers, Steve.

I read an article in a magazine which was about how an adoptive mother began pumping her breasts in order to try and feed a baby which she was going to adopt. She would sit and let the machine pump away each day just thinking about the fact that one day she might be able to feed and 'bond' with her newly adopted baby (im not saying you need to breastfeed in order to bond, this lady just felt she wanted an extra connection of something).
Anyway the time came for her to collect her daughter an low and behold, she had created breastmilk. Apparently the nipple stimulation from the pumping increased a certain breastfeeding hormone and she was able to lactate.
If your situation resemble this and that what you want to do then I say gor for it!

WHY would you want to do this? Apparently you can if you take a whole lot of nasty toxins and hormones but... producing milk this way is NOT beneficial for a child as its not like the milk a woman produces after she has birthed a baby. Please reconsider.

Assuming that you're talking about the possibility of breastfeeding an adopted child, it's entirely possible. I would definitely consult with someone like a lactation consultant and/or the La Leche League in your area.

MOre info here:

I believe there's even an entire book dedicated to the subject if you do some digging on Amazon.com.

ETA: Aside from manual stimulation, you can also use medications like Reglan (metoclopramide) and the herbal supplement Fenugreek.

As an AP I find the idea of trying to produce milk to feed a child that you haven't given birth to very disturbing and until I started using Yahoo answers didn't know it was possible!

What reason would you have for this other than to be in denial of where your adopted child came from? - surely it can't be good for the child all those false hormones etc! - on so many levels it is wrong wrong wrong!!!! ewwww

Opedial
Hormones.
