and i don't mean my mother adopting her... we're both 18 and want to be official sisters we known each other since we were 3.

if you want to be her sister, then your mother would have to adopt her. If YOU adopt her, she'd be your daughter. But since she's 18 I don't know what the process is. You'd have to look into adult adoption. |

You cannot. Although most states have provisions for adult adoptions, these provisions also have age difference requirements. For example, in California the adopting person must be at least 10 years older than the adopting person. Further, adopting creates a parent-child legal relationship, not a sibling relationship, between the adopting person(s) and the person(s) being adopted. |

Sorry, but you ca't "adopt" someone as your sister. The only way for you to legally be considered sisters is for you to share one or both parents. If one of your parents were willing to adopt her or her parents were willing to adopt you, then you would legally become sisters, but that is the only way. |

Assuming you qualify and want to spend the money, if either of you adopts the other you would not be sisters. One would be the parent and the other would be the child.
As far as what the others have said (with the exception of the one who wanted to learn more)....ditto. |

I've never heard of that being done. However, if one of you marries that others brother, you would be sister-in-laws. That should be close enough. |
