My husband and I are adopted and both come from foster care. We, of course know a lot of people that were adopted and we have many friends as well. I was adopted as a baby like my husband but my parents were always open and honest. I lived in a happy home and I owe my parents everything. My husband feels the same way towards his family. We're newlyweds 22 & 23 yr old and in the near future would like to find out about the procedures for adopting a child or children in the foster care system. I know it's different from adopting from an agency or whatever. I'm a teacher and my husband has his own company. My parents have no clue because they say 20 yrs ago it was not the same. We live in a nice home, have a dog and want to have our own kids, but also adopt because we know the feeling of wanting a family. I had a miscarriage last year and right now, we're waiting for God to bless us with one of our one, but would love to adopt as well, as this is something we discussed before getting married.
Will our age be an issue? What do we have to do to get information? I already saw children on the website waiting for a family, I've written emails, but no response. Not sure if this is the way to go, or if our age/financial issues are a problem. I as a teacher in a private school and my husband having his own landscaping business make enough for ourselves and our household, cars, etc. But we're not rich and sometimes struggle to make ends meet. I would love to adopt a child more than anything in the world though

call you local social services and they will give you all the info you need. Most, if not all states say you must be at least 21 and each state has own rules on age differences. For example, here in Wisconsin you must be 15 years older than child you foster or adopt. Some agencies require one of you be be a stay at home parent and others, it depends on the needs of the child you get. |
