The first thing you need to do is decide where you want to adopt from.
If you want to adopt from the US, you can either go through foster care or do a private adoption through an agency or attorney. If you go this route either look into foster care adoption or research which agency/attorney will suit your needs the best.
If you want to adopt internationally, you can research the various countries and their adoption policies and procedures. Go to:
http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/country/country_369.html
to do your research in that department.
Once you know what country you want to adopt from, Google that country's name and the words international adoption agency. You'll begin to develop a list of agencies with programs in that country.
Research each agency, get information packets from each one. Compile a list that will include info on fees, wait times, time in country, requirements (your age may make a difference on what age group you can adopt for instance), etc. Any information that's important to you should go on this list (we used Excel). Then you can use the info you gathered to narrow down your choices to a managable level. Once you have it narrowed down, call them & talk to the program coordinator and ask any additional questions you have and ask for references, names of families who've used them.
Call the reference families and pick their brains on their experiences with the agency. Ask if they had any misgivings or problems with the agency. One of the most important questions is "if you adopted again, would you use them again? why or why not?"
Go online and ask around about that agency (lots of adoption forums online). Check the Better Business Bureau and make sure they're legit.
Once you have all that info in hand you'll be able to make an informed decision about which agency is best to represent you in your adoption. You can begin the application process and gathering all the necessary paperwork that comes with adoption.
I hope this helps you! |

well for one i know is if you are LDS go to their adoption agency. They are great to work with. I placed my baby for adoption and went through them to find a family for my daughter. I heard they are really easy to work with. You have to be able to go through the temple though. If your not then look on the internet for adoption agencies. |

This is a good place to start...there are many on here who have adopted, or are in the process of adoption.
My husband and I have adopted one through an agency, and are in the process of adopting a foster child that has been in our care since birth.
We did much research and still didn't get alot of information because there are so many different avenues to go through and types of adoption these days.
DO NOT USE AN ADOPTION FACILITATOR!!! I know they are a great deal cheaper, but you usually have to pay all or most of the fee up front and they work on a time line. If you do not get your child in their time, they still keep your money! We lost money that way!
I would use one of three agencies! #1 ~ Family to Family Adoptions Inc. They are based in Richmond Texas...this is the agency that we used when we adopted our daughter. We got to the hospital when she was 22 hours old! The ladies there are great, and they make you feel very much like family! They also allow open, semi-open, and closed adoptions...depending on what birth mom and adoptive parents decide. Our fee was a little more than $17,000 plus $500 finalization costs (lawyer) at 6 months. There is also an application fee which is around $150.00
fam2fam.org
#2 ~ Catholic social services. They base the adoption fee on your income. You do not need to be Catholic to adopt through them.
You can find them in your yellow pages under "adoption"
#3 ~ Bethany Christian Services. They are a nationwide organization that I know many people that have adopted through. They have in house grants and can suggest other grants and adoption loans that you can recieve.
We personally are going to go back to Family to Family, we are from the Dakotas and we liked working with them so much that it is worth the long distance calls and trips!
Another thing to remember is NEVER PAY ANYTHING UP FRONT! Most agencies do request an application fee, but that should never be over $500!
Good luck! |

Call a local adoption agency and make an appointment for adoption counseling. Learn what your options are.
Go to adoption.org, adoption.com, or abcadoptions.com and read, read, read! Join forums and talk to other parents interested in adoption. You will learn so much!
Good luck! |

I recommend speaking with a local agency that specializes in all forms of adoption - identified, domestic, international, etc. They will best be able to discuss the different options with you. Our adoption agency also discussed the possibility of foster/adopt programs in our state, even though they had no involvement with that program. If an adoption agency is a reputable organization, their goal is to find loving families for all children, not just make a buck. They will explain ALL options to you whether or not it involves their facility.
Good luck to you. |

Do you want to adopt or do you want to give a child up for adoption? Either way...you are a caring and compassionate person. Below is a link for an agency that I have heard is outstanding. Best of luck to you!
