Hi Green Butterflygirl,

If I were you, I would contact your state department of children services to inquire about the children who are currently in foster care and seeking permanent homes. Names of that department will vary. Sometimes it is called children & family services or human services.

Requirements vary from state to state. They will inform you of the requirements for your particular state. They all require a minimum of passing a homestudy. Other considerations will include interviews, physical health, age, marital status, financial stability, your home, criminal background checks, references, other family members, etc. Once it has been determined that you could be suitable parents for a particular child, he/she will typically live with you for a minimum of 6 months with occassional social worker visits until the adoption can be approved and finalized in court by a judge.

Other ways have been used, but I wouldn't recommend soliciting a pregnant woman to give up her baby. In the meantime, a good idea would be to research as much as you can about raising adopted children, which is different from raising biological children. The more educated you are on adoptee issues, the better of an adoptive parent you will become. Good luck with your future family, and thank you for considering a child who already truly needs a home.

First you need to decide whether you want to go through an agency or do a private adoption. There is a HUGE difference in the price you will pay. Going through an agency is much less expensive. If you go through an agency you will need to get licensed as a foster parent first because all states require you to foster the child for 6 months. Then it's home studies and lots of paper work. Going this route is tedious and time consuming but also very rewarding.

Some states make you first foster a child/ children for one year... I guess that would be the first step...

there are some great websites out there...

1. Call local adoption agency; make appointment.
2. At appointment, they will tell you all the requirements.

My mother has been an adoptive parent/foster parent for 15 years. First you 'd want to go through Department of Family and Children Services and become a foster parent. After foster for a couple of years, I would suggest this to get familiar with the child, then you can adopt and legitimize it.

I went through a adoption agency and they guide you through it , step by step. I used New Hope Christian Service in Concord, New Hampshire. They help you over the phone. Its not that hard. Good luck!

I wouldn't do the foster thing. They take children who don't need to be taken. They don't even give them to family who are perfectly capable. Some social workers lie to get money so they can have a bigger paycheck, and they will lie to you too.

It happened to me. I wouldn't suggest it.

Look online and see what else you can find.
