I asked my biological family when I reunited with them at age 37. Prior to that, I didn't know for certain.

This is a huge problem for adoptees - looking in the mirror and asking themselves 'what am I?' people just don't seem to get how anguish making that can be; the not knowing.

I didn't know I was Irish until a DNA test at 37 years of age. That's 37 years of looking in the mirror and wondering who and what I was. This was confirmed upon finding my mother and extended family and I'm thrilled to have a complete family history back to the mid-1600s, it's just fascinating to me; absolutely amazing!

Nobody should have to do that. Nobody has any place keeping the facts of our own lives from us

i didn't know till this year. because i'm korean, black, and cherokee i look like a little bit of all races and it didn't bother me until someone asked me why i wanted to be black. i looked at her and instantly went into identity crisis mode because i realized i had no clue weather i was black or not. didn't know what i was and couldn't guess. all of my great aunts and uncles and my grandfather are all light skinned black people with grey eyes. it's hard to tell what they are so i didn't have a chance. 30 years later i finally got an answer. funny how something that simple can make you so happy.

I wondered that as well.
my father is German.
my mother is Lebanese.

most people say that I am white.
because my dad is, can I not be middle eastern?

my daughter' father is Hispanic.
she claims to be Hispanic.

however, can she be white?
would that depend on if she looked Mexican or white?

my friend is white/German from Germany and is baby' mama is black.
does that mean the baby is white because the dad is white?
or does that mean she is black because that is a dominate color?
she looks black, how would she fill out paperwork?

this is a question based on separation of color and ethnicity.

You can get a good/general idea if you take a heritage DNA test.

You don't have to be any specific age to take the test (q-tip mouth swab)... I had one done on my two-year [at the tiem] old son. I also did mine. We got very interesting results.

you mean ur place of origin, where ur ancestors are from?
try asking ur family, try searching family names.
obviously u can tell what u r also by looking in the mirror (no offense to be caused at all)
