its different from state to state, but we had to get approved as fit for adoption, got a nun to start looking, and when we got our daughter, we had to pay the adoption agency and attorneys as well as staying in the host state til they got the paperwork done.
if it's local and private it can be much cheaper |

Just asking

Could you give more info? Are you adoptining or giving up adoption? Do you already have a parent that wants to give you their child? If you are just thinking of adopting it is a very long hard process if you don't already have someone. If you know someone giving you their child then both you and the parents go to court and yes you sign some papers. if you want to adopt and have no one in mind and you are adopting through the state then usually you have to do foster care first talk to a number of social services to make sure you are fit for adopting and it cost alot of money. sometimes adopting from other countries is easier BUT you have to be careful because depending what country you adopt from alot of the children are handy cap because of the what the mom does during pregnancy or in some cases the mom's have diseases that are passed on to the child. Sometimes it is best to find a pregnant women that wants to give up their child. You can put an ad in the newspaper that you want to adopt an unwanted child. but that cost money too because you usually pay for the carrying mothers living expenses and her hospital bills. I have heard it taking years for someone to adopt. sorry this answer is so long but if you gave a little more detail on what you are looking for I could have answered it better :) Good luck |

its a huge legal matter
are you asking from the adoptive parents side,
or the birth mothers side?
im pretty sure the adoptive parents have to pay an agency or a lawyer to represent them, then once they find a birth mother they usually pay for any doctor visits, the lawyer representing her, and other things she might need during pregnancy. in that situation, the papers that finalize the adoption cannot be signed until a certain amount of time after the birth of the child. the amount of time changes from state to state or with the birth mothers nationality.
or adoptive parents can adopt from a foster home, and i know nothing about that.
from the birth mothers point of view, there are free agencies that you can go to that will show you people who want to adopt who are signed up with that agency.
or you can go online to the agencies website and view them on there.
or if you find a lawyer that deals with adoption they can show you people.
really there is a ton of different ways to go about it.
i hope after all that you didnt just mean adopting an animal lol |

I am not sure how it works in Idaho, but here is a web site that might be able to help. You should be able to get information on the Idaho laws and regulations from a free clinic near you. Also, most lawyers will do an initial consultation for free, you could check there too.
