How hard will it be to adopt an 11 year old girl? We saw a profile of a child in our area & are interested.?

My husband and I have decided that we'd like to adopt. We saw a profile of a girl in our area that is up for adoption and sent an email to the agency. How long does it take to go through the adoption process and how much will it cost to adopt this child? Anyone have any experience or advice?

That would depend on the state that you are in. What ever the case may be follow what ever they say if that is what you really want. Sometimes it will seem that they are just wanting you to jump through hoops, but they do what they do for reasons, no matter how ridiculous it is.

actually it is fairly easy to adopt older children, because there is less of a demand on older children! So good luck to you guys

I suggest calling the agency to find out what they say, and ask them for references of other families, so you can call them and ask how long it took them.

Also, do some checking to make sure the agency is a good one. Is it CPS (Child Protective Services)?

And finally, start reading about adoption immediately, especially adoption of an older child. You want to be prepared, so that as parents you can help this girl reach her full potential in life.

depends on state. But it depends on her how hard adoption is because she is older and understands more but at 11 you entering a tween stage so it could be extremely easy or a bit harder

I'd give it a few days and then call the agency to follow up on your e-mail. It shouldn't be too hard to get your little girl home :) she is older and that makes it easier all the way around because there is less demand for older children, as sad as this is ... Start preparing yourselves for the challenges that may come with this situation. Chances can be that she has been through a ton and has a lot she'll need to work through with you. Thanks for rising to this important role in her life.

The adoption process could take a year or more depending on the child's legal status. If you are a licensed foster parents it could go faster. The challenge is bringing up an 11 year old and the challenges that come with it. I was adopted at that age. Feel free to email me any questions! Best Wishes!

Take the time to read some books from your library on adoptions. In your best interest and that of the girl, get all the information on just what type of adoption this is going to be. I could give you information that you would except or reject, that's why you both need to read the books on different adoptions from your library.
My wife and I adopted two children when they were small, now grown. My brother and sister-in-law, adopted 4 children different times and ages. Again a good reason for getting information giving a large scope of what takes place is that good agencies don't allow information on a child to be available to everyone. Be careful of what you're doing, you're not buying something that has no feels, nor would you ever recover from having that child removed from your home because of paper work or a birth parent even after 11 years wanting that child in their live again.
Good luck- their is no greater reward than to have adopted children.
