How long do you think a home study will take?

Are you talking about the whole adoption process, or just the homestudy? The homestudy is when a social worker comes to your house for an interview, and it takes maybe a few hours. Ours was done in two separate sessions of maybe an hour or two each. Once the interview part was finished, the social worker typed it up, sent it to her supervisor for review, and we were approved for adoption about 2 weeks later. So, from the beginning to the end of the homestudy (i.e. from the first visit from the social worker), it took about 3 weeks.

If you're talking about the whole process, that depends on how fast you complete your paperwork, how soon you can take the classes, how soon you can get your homestudy done, and how soon you're matched with a child. If you already have a child in mind, you could probably finish the whole process in a few months. It took us about 8 months (including the homestudy) from the day we made the first phone call.

Since we got approved, we've been waiting a little over a year and a half, but the wait time varies widely. Most people I know wait about 8 months once they're approved.

It took us about six weeks, after you have finished your foster/adoption classes.

our agency told us 3-6 months. thats for the full thing from start to finish. becasue thee are classes involved and things that have to processed through government agencies and we all know they tak their time. I am going to our first class on monday. I will let you know for sure how long they say it takes but usally 3-6 months it also depends on if they are in a hurry to get you paperwork ready cause they have babies waiting.

When my mother and grandmother were in the process of adopting my nieces through CPS, I believe they came once or twice every month in the beginning, then if I remember correctly it seemed as if they came around once every two months.

They just came in to see how the girls were living, making sure we had enough food in the fridge/pantry, and talk to us a little bit on how they are doing everyday. So, I roughly say it took less than 30 mins, unless they have to ask you some further questions, which may lead to an hour or two. I think it depends on the social worker too. Our very first social worker was very nasty with us, she was trying to convince us to let someone else raise the eldest, but we had to immediately switch to someone else, who was almost acted as if she was a family member visiting, instead of a case worker.

depends on the worker. the first one I had we "worked" with for close to a year and she hadn't started writing it. the one we had now had a potential placement in our home 2 1/2 months after we met her. (they went back to family, though)

2 of my siblings were adopted and they home study only took about an 1 and 1/2.
Um, I think it's great that your adopting a special needs child...you go girl!!!! your a blessing and a fresh breath of air.

I would guess about 1-2 hours. It shouldn't take all day or anything like that.

i think that it is most likely to take about 3 years because usually foster people usually have allot on there mind and is hard for them to focus on only one thing i know this because my best friend was in something like this take it from me i know what i am talking about
