How many children can a person legally adopt?

I was curious because at some point it must be a bad situation for the child if they feel they must compete for attention so any answers.

This issue has alot more to it than just $$.
At some point, you have to realize that you might have TONS of love to share, but you need to be able to have the time to share it with the children so that they feel it and know it.
If you have too many kids, even if you love all of them, they may not feel it because you physically, mentally, etc don't have enough time to show it all of them.
For example, what if you have 6 kids and then adopt another baby, who just happens to have colic. That baby takes alot of your time and energy. Although you tell your other kids that you love them, yadda, yadda, they don't get the attention they need too, because you are so busy with colic baby.
I think there is a limit. It's not just about $$. And that limit is different for each person and each situation. |

It was definitely a bad situation for the 11 children adopted by Judith Leekin. She kept them in cages and otherwise abused and neglected them.

So much for their better lives. |

Well as long as you have the resorces you can adopt as many as you like! but some adoption agencies have a limit of hildren from that agency because there are so many willing parents to adopt babies. so you may have to switch adoption agencies the more kids you would like.i know the adoption agency i am from only allwoed 2 kids per couple because there were so many willing parents in that adoption agency.
Hope this helps!!! |

As many as they are able too. Of course they do look at your income and divise it by how many kids to see if the kid will be able to have the necesseties (*sp*) that they need. But if you have the money and time for 5,6,7or more kids then more power to ya! |

I think that may just depend on state/country/agency. Actor Ryan Kelley is 1 of 14 kid, 9 are adopted. I did see a news story a few years ago of a couple who had like 8 adopted children, and then ended up adopting a sibling group of 9. I suppose in some cases as long as one can provide. That said I think it gets to the point where parents just can’t give adequate attention to so many kids regardless if they are adopted or natural. It gets to the point where you basically have the older ones taking care of the younger ones. Or you have to have kids sign up if they want 1 on 1 time with mom or dad or both |

I heard of a couple on the west coast somewhere adopting their 30th. They were all special needs kids, so maybe they had a waiver or something. Still, I've never heard of there being a limit as long as you have the space, love, and funds needed to care for them. |

I know a family who had 5 of their own, and so far has adopted 13. Their children are all so happy, and they are all so loved. After talking with most of the kids, they seem well adjusted. Many have been through adoption disruptions, some are bio siblings, and there are several races in the family. The 1st time I met them, I was going to their swimming hole, where all but the youngest 3 were, and there was so much laughter and fun sounds, that it was fun to be around them! They each have a night once every 2 weeks, that they get to choose where they go. The older ones can, but don't have to go, and this way, they each are getting a night for either privacy with 1 or both parents, individual time with grandparents, or fun for the entire family to have a great time. Also, every 4 weeks, one of the parents get a night off (if everything goes as planned), and they can get some privacy, go shopping, or go with a friend. |
