We adopted two boys from the Philippines. That country does not allow you to choose gender, but we wouldn't have anyway, since you can't choose when you have kids biologically. We chose the Philippines because it is cheaper than most countries, requires you to be there only one week (as opposed to many countries that require several weeks or months), and of course we don't qualify for many countries because we already have kids or something.
Our boys were 10 and 5 when we got them. We wanted to adopted older children because they are so much harder to place. Of the 150 million orphans in the world, 95% of them are over the age of 4. So very few are healthy infants, so there really is not a need in this area. |

Two. We were open to sibling groups up to 4.
We didn't have a specific gender or age in mind, though we had intended on older children, and ended up with 2 under 2, just due to their needs being a match with my skill set. We initially planned to take teens, but were told we were too young to do that (I was 26 when we initially applied. I am almost 29 now).
Domestic foster care. I have a lot of background working with high needs kids. I started out wanting to be a foster parent, and still intend to down the road. |

We've adopted our first from India, and the other two from home through domestic foster care.
We didn't request gender or ages for any of them and the only reason we adopted from India is because we lived there for a few years. |

Two. We didn't set a preference for gender and the age preference was younger than our biological son (who was 13 at the time) per his request. Made our decision on where to adopt after a LOT of research. |

2 and in the process for #3.
We chose the gender, age and country for the first 2. We have 2 bio children of the same gender so we chose to adopt the other gender. We didn't want infants so we requested special need toddlers between 21 and 36 mos. The third adoption was more of she found us, we weren't looking to adopt but we found about her situation and decided we would adopt her. She is school aged.
We chose international. |

I have 2 adopted children, from America. Gender really was not important, we were blessed with a boy and a girl. We looked into adopting older children, but it did not work out. We adopted 2 infants. |

Well I didn't adopt I'm one of the children but my mom and dad adopted, me, my younger brother and my older sister. (We did not come from the same parents...we aren't blood related). My parents applied at an agency, and they were unlucky enough to wind up with us!! (We were adopted a couple years apart, they adopted my older sister, then five years later adopted me, then two years later adopted my brother) My parents did not request gender but we were all adopted as infants. We are all from the US...in fact we're all from the same state....but different cities. |

One.
I didn't decide the gender and age. I don't believe in doing that. I wanted to be a mom, so I wanted a CHILD. Not a 3 year old girl or a newborn boy. No specifics.
And I adopted from foster care in my home country, the USA. Kids in foster care are the only kids who TRULY need homes. |
