How much does it cost to adopt?

Overseas is more expensive. $18,000 is the low end for Haiti and Tiwan. China has a 5+ year wait now but is at $26,000 and Russia is $32,000. There are waiting child programs for older children and those with disablities that have reduced costs.
Domestic adoption runs $12-18,000 for AA and biracial children and $16-30,000 for caucasian and other races.....yes, isn't that just sad? People want a child so bad!!! (unless its black)
Those prices on domestic are agency adoption. Yes, they are a business. Don't believe the "non profit" tag on so many of them. Private adoption runs $4-7,000 for legal fees, homestudies, and post placements. More if you are paying living or medical expenses.

I looked into adoption here in America about 10 months ago it was around $10,000.00 .My husband and decided that we were just not financially able plus we could not get any help with it. A month later god blessed us and we became pregnant ! I am now due in 9 days.

It's free if you adopt through foster care. Please keep in mind that adoption exists to provide families for children who need them. Right now, you have some grieving to do (I'm so sorry for your infertility issues!). This is not a problem that someone else's child can fix for you. Children should not come into a family with a job. Please take care of yourself, and look into adoption when you're able to look at this as what's best for a child, not what you need to fill an un-fillable hole.

It should just cost the court fees. However in reality it depends how large the agency's profit margin is.

Adoption can be very expensive - but there is a tax credit for adoption, which is more than $11,000 now.

Also, your employer might have adoption benefits.

You'll probably need an attorney to help you through the process.

If you do proceed keep all those receipts!

depends on the type of adoption you are considering. International can be anywhere from twenty thousand to 35thousand.. Ours was aproximately 25 thousand in the end. but it is all broken up into different parst. you dont pay it at one time you pay for each process. Like agency fee
homestudy
legal papers
lawyers
state govt fees
and so on

Very sorry about your misfortune.
You'll have to look into it. There are some private adoptions that are free I belive. (At least in Canada where we have free Health care) If you are adopting a newborn privatly, you may have to cover the healthcare costs. It is different everywhere. Maybe you could adopt a baby from Canada?

I learned that in Mexico, mainly in Matamoros there is a organization that is called DIF. DIF is an organization in all parts of Mexico. The people from DIF are the ones that take care of orphan kids and take kids away from unfit parents. I learned from a lady, that she contacted those people, and they contact the hospitals, since there are a lot of woman that want to give their kids for adoption. DIF gets you in contact with the hospital when there is a possible candidate, then they let you know when to go to the hospital to decide what baby you want. This lady said thats how she adopted her son. I dont remember if she went to the consulate first or after to make it all legal. I think she only paid for the legal proceedings and lawyer and thats it.
I am also asking about adopting, but my case is different, the woman is here in USA and just wants to hand the baby away for who wants to adopt it. I dont know if been a USA citizen makes it easier to adopt a kid overseas or it is the same for legal residents. That's why I havent made the choice of deciding to adopt across.

If you are adopting a newborn in America, you probably pay the birth mother's medical fees as well as the legal fees. A church or community organization may charge as little as four or five thousand, but if you adopt privately, you can probably expect well over ten thousand.

Overseas, you can probably expect 10-30 thousand dollars.

Adopting through foster care is free.
