1) My son said he would rather have been aborted than adopted. So maybe it makes abortion look like not such a bad alternative after all.

2) It increases the number of people who go see trauma counsellors, both adoptees who feel traumatized by being taken from their mothers at birth and sold, and mothers who had babies who were forced to surrender babies they loved and wanted to keep. So it helps keep counselors, psychologists,and psychiatrists in business.

3) It puts money in the pockets and bank accounts of businesses that thrive on "the baby trade" and have the money to invest in advertising and "counseling" to persuade mothers to surrender their newborns -- each "sale" can garner $25,000 or more ...

On the other hand, there is nothing that adoption accomplishes "for the good" that can't be delivered by other means that don't involve falsifying birth certificates and creating a "legal fiction" of people being related to each other who aren't. Not that people don't adopt with all good intentions, but it should be about the children, and it seldom is.

Everyone thinks adoption is "good", why not choose the more thought-provoking idea--that adoption is VERY flawed.

Poor AdoreHim... She can only see abortions everywhere.

Unfortunately, her good experience makes her believe that all adoption is good. If she could just quit generalizing from her one good experience, maybe she could see the bigger picture. Of course, she believes her mother did the right thing, even though she knows nothing about her mother.

As for how to persuade people to adopt, others have already pointed out that it is really unethical to to try to persuade people to give up their children for adoption.

Here are some:

It can be a rescue for children from abusive or neglectful parents.

Adoption can mean a permanent home for children instead of a childhood of foster care.

Less desirable children, such as those who are older, handicapped, non-white, and siblings wishing to be adopted together are better off being adopted instead of being shuffled around between group homes or foster care.

I'm trying to highlight here that there are many thousands of children waiting to be adopted right now and would love to have a family to call their own but most adoptive parents are only interested in adopting babies, especially if they are healthy and white.

Before I personally answer your question I must say this-
SUNNY- not all people think adoption is bad, sorry if you had an experience that was not good, but you are generalizing that all is bad.
Why do I think adoption is good.
1- first of all I have life because my birth mother decided not to abort me. Same with the birth moms of my 2 children. Many people they knew tried to convince them it would be better to abort, then adopt.
2- the birth mom will remember giving a life, instead of taking a life
3- parents who are unable to have children, can actually be parents. (I am one of those people as well, as being an adoptee)
4- Most people will say it is always better if the baby stays with the biological parent. If the parent feels that they can raise their baby well, then yes, it is- however I would say it is better to have a life with adopted parents, then to have never seen life at all.

This will not be popular- and that is unfortunate. The bad light that adoption has, is likely the reason for a majority of the abortions, because people discourage adoption, SO SAD.

i have an adopted brother although i hardly ever think of him as my adopted brother in fact i dont really like calling him that even for this purpose

it is a good thing as children that are unwanted or couldnt stay with three birth parents have the chance to have a normal upbringing rather than living in children homes or going from foster home to foster home

it also gives a chance for couple who cannot concive naturally to have a child of there own

How about "why international adoption is better."

Chances of dealing with "birth parents" is less.
adoptions were good when American kids were grateful. Now they feel entitled, are unappreciative and to hell with the feelings of anyone else. If they live with their natural parents they treat them like dirt. The adoptive parent has it worse.
Just abort them.

All paarents are unable for various reasons to take care of their kids. Adoption allows that kid a life with a family that can care for them. Most adoptive families that I know ( all from out of the country) don't even think of the person as adopted and never intorduce their kid as their adopted child.
