How to adopt without an agency in Indiana?

I am a 31 year old single woman. I have not been able to have children of my own. I don't believe I will ever be able to. I don't want to wait until I am too old to adopt and miss so much of a child's life. I am financially stable, but not wealthy enough to use an agency to adopt. I always hear of girls who want to give their babies up, but don't go thru agencies either. Has anyone done this? Or plans to do this? Or has anyone adopted this way?

Adopt thru Foster Care - as there are thousands of children there ready for adoption - that need loving homes.
It also costs next to nothing.

Trying to find a pregnant woman to talk into giving her child up to you - is coercive and icky. Sorry.
Adoption is meant to be about finding homes for children that need them - not about finding babies for those that want them.

Please read up on how adoption is for adoptees and relinquishing mothers.
Here's a good place to start -

Babies want to stay with their mothers - and if no harm is present that is what should happen. (humans are hard wired that way)

I'm sorry that you haven't been able to have a bio child of your own - but please don't get into an out-of-control industry that thrives on separating mothers and babies. (adoption of infants is huge $$ making business in the USA)

I wish you well.

I agree with Possum

Adoption should be about the needs of the child and not about the wants of an adult who cannot conceive.

I guess the best thing to do is to follow up with your source of information when you hear about all of these girls who want to give their babies away and let them know that you are ready to take the babies off their hands. Although I am kind of surprised that you hear about a lot of these cases. In the past 10 years or so girls giving their babies away to strangers has become very rare. The babies usually stay within in the girl's families these days.

Since cost is an issue, perhaps you should consider foster to adopt which is low cost if not free. Even if you find a girl who does not want to go through an agency, you still need to have a home study and pay lawyer's fees.

>I always hear of girls who want to give their babies up, but don't go thru agencies either.<

I don't think that is very common, and when it does happen it is usually because the expectant mom found the adoptive couple on her own (through friends and family for example), not the other way around.

We weren't even looking to adopt, and DS's first mom was told about us through a friend of a friend thing...apparently we were the kind of people she was looking for. We didn't know anything about it until we got a call asking if we had any interest in adopting, and if so would we answer a questionnaire she had prepared.
