How would my bf be able to adopt my son?

So my boyfriend wants to adopt my son and I live in the state of Arizona. Does anyone know how I would go about doing tha?

Okay, so me and my boyfriend been together for 4 years. I have a son that hes claimed as his own and has been there for him before he was born. My son has never met his real dad. He left like way before my son was born and is currently in prison. So can someone please expain to me how my boyfriend would be able to adopt my son. Like the process and the cost. I dont know if it matters but I live in Arizona. Thanks!

First of all, he will have to be your husband before he can adopt your son. Some states have a lenth of time that you must be married first. Other states have no time restrictions. Call a family law attorney in your area and ask what the laws are for Arizona.

When I adopted my step daughter, her first mom went with us to the lawyer, we all signed the papers. Her first mom signed a relinquishment of parental rights and conssent to adopt. I signed a petition to adopt.

The lawyer had everything drawn up and filed. We went to court, answered some basic questions from the judge, and he signed to adoption decree.

If your sons biological father will not signe his right away, your lawyer can tell you if his rights can be involuntarily terminated. (laws vary by state) and how.

However, your first step will have to be marriage to your boyfriend. It is called "step parent" adoption. and step parent isn't the same as "mom's boyfriend" or "mom's fiance". The court wants to see comitment

Well first I believe you should marry the guy first. Next you have to have the ex sign off and give up is rights to your son. The cost I believe is around $5000 for the adoption app.
