I'm adopted and grown. How can I go about finding my biological mother?

Please don't waste my time telling me this is a bad idea. I just need answers. Where can I look online to pull up this information? I have her full name and everything but are there any free people search options?

General Searching Advice:
First, register with ISRR:
http://www.isrr.net
Second, depending on what state the adoption occurred in, there may be state registries to register with that facilitate reunions.
Third, if you were adopted through an agency, they may offer reunion facilitation services. (It will cost money, though not as much as a private investigator.)
(This bit is swiped from Possum...):
Also register your information on
http://registry.adoption.com/
Check here for information on your state records -
http://adopteerights.net/
(click on the page marked 'Searchers' down the left hand side)
Check here for search help - and links to FREE search angels -

If you have her name, various sources such as online white pages, People Finder, and Intellius allow you to search for people.
Finally, you can find other adoptees who have gone through many of the same things at:

Have you tried to simply google her name? I found my friends son this way. Then there are some websites like myspace, facebook, classmates.com, reunion.com.
I think this is a great idea and a journey that every adoptee is entitled to take. Best of luck. |

Dear emgee89,
It is not a bad idea! It is YOUR truth!
If you do have her full name, zabasearch is a great free people search. Here is the link:
http://www.zabasearch.com/
Also, there are tons of free registries all over the net. If you know where you were adopted from, you can even find registries for specific areas and agencies.
The biggest and most successful registry is the International Soundex Reunion Registry:
http://www.isrr.net/
There are search angels who can help you:
http://www.the-seeker.com/angels.htm
There are also some very knowledgeable regulars on this board who are reunited and brilliant at reunion and search information. If you look through resolved questions you will find TONS of useful information.
I wish you the very best of luck with your search! I hope that you find all the answers you are seeking! :) |

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. I'm also searching for my first mom. Do you have any idea of her whereabouts? If you do (or even if you're not sure) try searching for her on myspace, facebook, classmates.com, and other social networking sites like that. My sister's first mom found her through myspace. |

I found my mother through genealogy. I had her maiden name from 20 years before, and I knew the state she lived in. There was no internet then, so I searched phone books in the state to narrow it down to an area. Then I searched obituaries and marriage announcements in that area and found her married name as well as the names of her parents and siblings. Much of this information is online now and available free of charge through the US GenWeb.

If you was in the UK I would be able to point you in the right direction so in other words it's a good idea. I don't know if you've started preparing yourself but do that as well. Most mothers do actually want to be found :) - I did. |
