I am 18 and me and my boyfriend want to adopt a child he is 18 too....?
Find answers to your legal question.

I am 18 and me and my boyfriend want to adopt a child he is 18 too....?

We are moving to california next year.I have a some questions.
1.Do you think we are to young to adopt a child?
2.Should we adopt where we live or wait until we get to california?
3.We want the child to be potty trained is this asking a lot?
4.About how old should the child be that we adopt?
5.Should we take the child shopping to get stuff for the child the day we get the child or wait?
6.Should we start the child in school right away?
Thank you for helping!

I believe you have to be 21 to adopt in California.

Why do you want to jump into this? you already have a child.Wait a few years and enjoy the time with that kid.

Your #3 question alone tells me you are both too young to even consider adoption.

You would have to be in a marriage of at least two years before they would even consider you, and I believe the low ball age would be 25.

No adoption agency is going to give a child to two 18 year olds. Sorry to burst your bubble.

you are way too young to adopt a child. your too young to have a child at all. you shouldnt adopt. it is a child not an animal, somtimes they dont come potty trained. you shouldnt adopt a child.

Hello, me & my bf?? First off you need to be in a committed realtionship, you change completely between 18 & 25. You are not done college or university. You don't have a career plan or money or housing, get to California? Potty trained? Shopping? Hey start yourselves in some long term schooling. Oh my do not even think about adopting a dog.

You mentioned your boyfriend adopted a child with another girl and he's 18yrs old. What about the child he's adopted already with his ex? Has he given a thought about stability for the child he's a legal father to or want to be part of the child's life? Or does he just think its a cool trendy thing to do because movies stars are doing it? Sorry but just because he adopted a child doesn't suddenly make him a responsible person. His actions will determine that.

I'm trying not to be down on you here.

But one of my sisters friends raised three of her siblings from the time she was 18yrs old because her mother died suddenly and her father had to work and it wasn't easy. (The three came to live her and her boyfriend, from a family of seven kids.)

SHE said she hopes her own daughter waits until she's older before taking on a child bio or adopted. That's how hard it was for her to be a mother to them because of the commitment involved.

You may have to do lots more research into parenting an adopted child.

No reputable agency would adopt to two teenagers, ever.

From your list, it sounds like you are actually wanting to adopt a puppy.

There is a very serious shortage of children for adoption for married, stable economically couples, I believe you probably will have a problem getting a child.

Enigma
i defo think you 2 are way to young to adopt a child. you could not offer a child a good life, and too be honest, the fact tht u fel the need to ask such a ridiculous question on here proves it. Oh, and as for being potty trained?! please. grow up.

Let me get this right

"You people do not have to be mean we are very reposible.and he already did adopt a child with his last girlfriend. And I do a lot of community service. And am well known for helping kids."

1. He is 18 and has already adopted a child with his ex girlfriend (very responsible).

2. How long have you been dating? He must have applied at 18 to adopt a child which must take at least 6-9 months for the checks to be completed. He has a child, split with his ex got with you and now you both decide that you are in a longterm loving relationship and are ready to bring up a child.............

Your other prioritise appear to be based about playing at mums and dads....

Buy a doll little girl and stop messing about with real people.

Just me..
You should wait until you're older. Unless you guys are like super mature, don't. It's probably a heck of a lot more work than you think it is. Don't waste all of your young years raising a child. Wait until you're older like, 25 is the youngest I think. You need a stable job too. Have fun while you can!!

Just a Mom
Yeah, so I don't think your boyfriend really adopted a child. That would put him probably below the age of 18. I am not buying it.

hey hey slow down fellows raising the child is not so simple a task and espcially adopting and raising a child at 18 ,tender age to do so
?
go out and first meet up some foster parents and seek their council
rather get in touch with a psychologist to help you understand the nature of the task you intend to take
your question in it self to some extent expresses the need for some patience before you ppl you go ahead with this option

First the government has to say yes to you before you even need to start looking into these things, they will see you as very young and you may not even make enough money for them to allow you to put your names on a adoption form.

Second children are not like animals and to say you want a child to be potty trained already hints that your to young, (a better way to get a 'potty trained' child would be to adopt an older child. )At your age I really don't feel you should be adopting yet, but if you really are willing to give it your all you should look for a child between the ages of 6-9. you should already have things awaiting the adopted child so they can settle in their new home before taking the child on any adventures or introducing him/her to other friends and family. As for starting the child in school it really depends on the age of the child and if he/she is old enough to be in school. Good Luck with your adoption Plans.

Wow.. okay there were quiet a few negative answers that I read, I believe you are too young to adopt, No real reason, Im 21 and my partner and I are in the process of Fostering children, Its a big responsibility and being 21 I know when I recieve my child I will miss partying, also, Why do u want to adopt? Why not have your own children? Im unable to have children and at 21 and 3 years into my relationship I believe I am ready for children, hence the reason I am fostering.

It is definitly up to you, but! like people have said, there are strict guidelines out there, and your age might affect your application. How long have u and ur bf been together? Would u be able to look after the child if ur bf split? Just remember if he has already adopted a child.. why didnt his last relationship work out?? and how do u think it affected the adoptive child... think about the children and really not about what u want! U may want to wait till u can provide an awesome life for a troubled youngster.. and be prepared for hard work!!!

1. it depends whether you are in a loving stable relationship and are financially supported.
2. Wait until you move, adoption can take longer than a year on most occasions.
3. Yes?! you cannot pick a child, yes you can pick the age range, why dont you want to potty train the child? cant afford nappies?
4. Whatever age you would want to adopt. Maybe anything from 3-8?
5. I would let the child stay overnight, and then ask them if they want to go shopping in the morning. remember, the child will have to bond with you. make sure you have some things in for them before they come to your house.
6. again, i would let the child settle in with you first. he/she could get very stressed by moving to a new house and a new school at the same time.

yes i feel you guys are too young i had my son at 20 and i wanted a baby so bad but i had no idea how to be a mom to him and all that went with it. im so glad i did okay but fast forward 12 years later it would have been nice to wait financially, mentally, and its alot of hard work and rewards but if he is your boyfriend maybe you should wait until you get married have more to provide for your children/blessings and really be sure you guys are ready for such a big thing its for life and you shouldn't give the child back if it doesn't meet your expectations it is a whole lot of give and take and im not sure you guys understand that right now.One day when God does decide to bless you guys with a baby it will be the right time and you guys will be able to give the children what they need God willing just make sure you guys are stable before you try good luck and hopefully you'll think it threw some more God Bless you guys!
