I am 40 my husband is 42 We would like to adopt a child up to 3 years?

My husband and I would love to adopt a child up to 3 years of age. We have 2 children ages 13 & 10 who would love a sibling. We are settled in our life and would love to add to our family. With my age I worry about putting a baby at risk. We have lots of love and time to give to another child. What would be the best way to adopt another child?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm 45, my wife is 40. We have a (adopted) 16 year old daughter, a natural born 14 year old daughter and we just adopted an infant this past summer. We went through DSS for a foster care adoption and nobody batted an eye about our ages. Now, of course if it is your choice thats different but it really shouldn't be an issue.

I was adopted when my a-parents kids were 13 & 14.
It was kind of hard being so much younger - for me & for my mother.
She had to go through the teenage years all over again with me - way after she'd already done it once.
They intended to adopt another after me - but couldn't - as sadly my a-father passed away before I was one.
Perhaps look into adopting 2 siblings from foster care - so they have each other also.
Kids in foster care are the ones that need a loving home - check with your local government dept about adopting from foster care.
Please do read a HEAP about what it feels like to be adopted from the adoptee view-point - as it's about the child - not about what you all want.
Please make sure you allow the adoptee to have knowledge (hopefully personally) of their first family - as they have come from another family to start with.
It will be a totally different experience than raising your own bio children.
But if you have an open heart - and can love the adoptee for who they are - and not who you want them to be - then all the best to you.

And are you suggesting that adoption isn't a risk for another woman's child.

No need for silly excuses.

foster to adopt program. Many kids waiting for homes and the cost is very minimal to adopt.

You're doing a good thing!

You want to adopt a child so your kids can have another sibling??? Umm, adoption is supposed to be about the CHILD. The adopted child. Get your kids a dog. Im more worried about that attitude versus your age putting a child at risk. Ugh.

I agree with Possum. Since your other kids are considerably older I think you should consider fostering a set of older siblings.

I was 2 when I was adopted. My mom was 38 and my dad 44. They had a son who was 13. I 'm not sure how you think you would be putting the child at risk. I know my parents never did because of their age. As long as you have the love to give and the means to support them (both emotionally and monetarily) I don't see a problem. Try checking into kids in foster care, department of human services might also be able to help, That's how they got me as I was taken away by the county. Good luck
