I am a british citizen and what if I got adopted child in the philippines, will I be able to get her in UK?

I'm planning to adopt a baby in philippines and I will arrange all proper documents needed in the philippines. I used to be a Filipino citizen but now I'm a british citizen and I know myself how easy and cheap to adopt a child in the philippines. Do you think it will be easy for me to get that child here in UK as my own daughter/son? Can I just simply pronounce in British embassy that this child is already my own and I want him/her with me in UK and I will be willing to provide them all the documents I got. I'm planning to adopt a 3 months old baby in the future. Will it be a problem If I arrange the adoption papers in the Philippines instead of doing it here in UK as it is really expensive to do it here? Can somebady tell me what could be the necessary requirements that I will need i getting an adopted child from different country?

Yes you can.
I was born and adopted in the USA. I was brought to the UK by my British Parents. Here's what the British Consulate told them:
"On your return to Britain the child will be admitted as member of your family on the (united states) passport it will be entitled to possess. After you have settled in the United Kingdom you must arrange to have the relevant adoption papers accepted by a British Court and registered accordingly at Somerset House.
When this has been done the way weill then be open for your adopted child to obtain Citizenship of the United Kingdom"
It is NOT expensive to adopt in the United Kingdom. I don't know where you got that idea. |

I'd be very, very careful about this. I am a US citizen, and I know such a thing would be very tricky in the US, if it were possible at all. I would be very worried that my child could be deported. I believe the rule here is that you have to live with your child overseas for 2 years after the adoption before returning to the US.
I don't know if it is the same in the UK. If you don't get any answers from someone in the UK, I might try to look up some links for you, but it is late enough now that my brain isn't functioning on all cylinders.

Oh good, I'm glad Heather answered. She obviously knows a lot more than me about adoption in the UK. I just didn't want your question to go unanswered, and I know some adoptive families have ended up with big problems doing this sort of thing in the US. I would check through the courts before you go and make sure everything is in place to work smoothly on your return. |

That's a hard question. Are you still a citizen from the phillipines? I'm not sure how all that works. But if you are still a citizen of the phillippines you should be able to adopt there. I say why not unless you have to prove a permanant address. |

As a citizen of the UK, you would need to check the UK International adoption and immigration laws before traveling to the Philippines. The UK government has procedures for such things in place, I am sure. |

Suggestion: Get at least a temporary guardianship on the baby until your adoption is finalized in the UK. In some cases (in the USA), from state to state, you do the adoption in one state, and then have to re-do it in the state you live in. This might also be true from country to country. Any adoption attorney should be able to answer the question for you. Good luck! |

i don't know if i am late to reply still as i can't see the dates when these messages have been sent. i have enquired about intercountry adoption days ago. you need to follow the uk procedure like you are adopting here in the uk. i am from the phils (now a citizen) and my hubby is british and thought it will be easy for us as myself being from there but nope, not at all. you will need at least £6000 for the fees. good luck and all the best!!!!! please let me know how you get on. be careful and follow the uk rules as you might not be able to bring the child over. |

I am a british citizen, I adopted a child five years ago I do not like they way that this child is behaving as he is joining guns and I am worried that this child will spoil his future for doing this, can I return the child to his original country and register him a Borden school for couple of years, I will be providing his living expenses during that period. Thanks |
