Okay, this is just me being curious... I am in no way trying to offend anyone, all I want are honest answers. Believe me, I'm not asking this to pick a fight. I would like to consider adopting a foster child one day, and I want to know some things from adoptees POV.
How come some of you say that you dislike being adopted? I guess I always thought that it was good to adopt a child, but a lot of people on here seem to disagree with that. Isn't it good to adopt a child if they need a family, and if the adopting parents are resonsible and kind people?
I just really want to know why some people don't agree with it. Thank you for your time to answer me.

Yeah, I'm sure it is really hard to lose your biological family... I understand that part of it. But what I don't understand is, if a child is being given up then isn't adoption the best option? I would think it would be better for a child to have a second chance at a loving family than no family. And I would never adopt a child and expect them to be "grateful", they would just be my kid and would have all the same treatment, privledges, and resonsibilites as any other child should.

I love my adoptive parents without a doubt.
I love my adoptive environment.
I don't like that I had to lose a family to BE adopted.

I am an adoptee that likes being adopted.I like my family and wouldn't change them for anyone..even the birth parents.I've had my chance to meet them and they really do not tickle my fancy.I was glad that they signed away their rights for me and my sis.

In order for a child to be adopted into one family, they must first lose their own family. The people who created them, the people who should love them above all others, the woman they grew inside of, the person who's heartbeat and voice and smell they knew, the ONLY person they ever knew...
all that is gone...
along with their name, the rest of their people, their identity, any kind of genetic mirror...
and on top of that, they feel as though they must be 'grateful' for being 'saved' by someone who really, really does want the best for them...
but they just want their family.
There's plenty more, but that's a little glimpse.
ETA: They can "feel" that they are expected to be grateful, even if that's not what is said to them. And the point is just don't minimize the loss and think of adoption as a "good thing". It's the last resort. A substitute family because a child CAN'T have their own family. It's not the first choice. It's not the best option. The best option would be their own family, well and whole, loving and secure. If that's not an option, adoption is A choice. Not a GOOD choice, just A choice. |
