I have just noticed, something that probably should have ?

occurred to me sooner, but I never took notice. I have been doing a lot of back reading of Q&A in the adoption section, and I see that many people refer to many of their first mothers as young women, and it strikes me that I never really took into account age in first mothers, because our daughter's first mothers were both in their late 30's.
So I am wondering, were my cases just out of the norm, which very well could be because they were both domestic infant special needs adoptions? I mean no disrespect to anyone here, the light bulb has just kinda clicked on for me and I though maybe some would be willing to share if they knew how old their first mothers were, or how old they were when the lost their child.
Again, I mean no judgments, I would just like to get a better knowledge base of how old the average woman is who loses a child. Thanks!

I'll give a run down of the first mothers I know of IRL.
My mom was 17 when she had, and lost, me.
I was 17 when my son was born and 19 when I lost him.
My abrothers fmom was 19.
My friend S's fmom was 16.
My adad and his girlfriend were 18 when they lost their daughter.
My other friend S was 17 when she relinquished.
My cousin's fmom was 14.
A friend from work's fmom was 20.
A past coworker's fmom was 16. |

I lost my son at 18. I got pregnant on or about my 18th birthday. I am in groups with hundreds of women who lost their children to adoption during the EMS, and their ages range from 15 to about 22. It was not the norm during the EMS for the mothers to be older. In the home where I was there was an "older" mother who was 28. She was separated from her husband and got pregnant. She had an 8 year old at her mothers. If he had found out she was pregnant she would have lost her son. Her baby was born dead due to the anxiety she felt, I am sure.
During the EMS mothers were usually very young. Now it is different and the average age of the surrendering mother is in her early to mid twenties, statistically, according to the Donaldson Institute. |

Interesting question!
I'm a BSE (baby scoop era) adoptee. My 1st mom was 21 when I was born, 23 when I was placed in foster care (b/c she was a poor, divorced working mom b4 welfare per court records) and 24 when she lost me to adoption. |

I was 28, almost 29 yrs old when I gave birth and surrendered. I was also raising a 3 1/2 yr old little girl. The father of both my children is my soon to be ex husband. I was still married at the time of my younger daughter's surrender, tho he was out of the picture at the time of her birth (but he was made aware of the adoption plan, I had him served legal and proper). Her father was 30 when I surrendered. |

I was 18 when I became pregnant in 1966. In the Booth Home I was sent to - most of the girls were about my age - 16 to 19. There was however, a 14 year old and one young woman who I believe was in her early 20's.

I had just turned 20 whn I was raped and found out I was pregnant with my daughter. Most mothers I have met since were between 16-21 years old when they lost their children. I would say older mums relinquishing/losing children is unusual. |

this is what I have heard but, I don't know if it is true or not. More young mothers consider adoption but, more older moms go through with it. I think the reason why if an older mom gets to the point that she is moving forward with anything she is serious and whether it hurts or not will go through with what she thinks will be best. I guess what I am trying to say is not that an older mom loves their child more but, they are more likely to put their babies needs first.

Birthers are NOT mothers
|
Birthers have one thing in common...abandonment. Age doesn't matter, you can be just as selfish and cruel at 40 as you can at 15. |
