Me and my husband would love to adopt, but the adoption fees are overwhelming. I need to know if I could find assistance with this?

My wife and I adopted a baby through foster care. She was 4 days old when she came to us, almost 5 months by the time the adoption was finalized and the whole process from start to finish was 100% free.
Check into your local foster care adoption program(s) and good luck. |

Why would you expect to get financial assistance with adoption? Would you ask someone for financial help if you became pregnant or had to purchase fertility drugs/treatments? Yuck.
Have you considered that paying adoption fees is not really a one-shot deal? Once you've adopted a child, you will have to pay for food, clothing, insurance, shelter, and other basic necessities until the child is at least 18 years old? Or do you want financial assistance for that too?
*IF* you can actually afford to support a child, look into foster-to-adopt in your area. Adopting a child from foster care is virtually free and you would be providing a home and love to a child who really needs both. |

I agree with all of the other answerers, look into adopting from foster care. Not only is it inexpensive, but you are really helping kids in need.
If you must adopt privately, there are some agencies that offer 'sliding scale' or less expensive fees (you would need to search for them, I don't have that information). Also, some employers offer adoption benefits, contact your HR department to see if you or your husband's jobs offer any such benefits. Finally, there is a tax credit for adoption expenses (you will have to foot the bill, but will get some of the money back). |
