this girl i know had her daughter taken away from her a few yrs ago for neglect and this family was going to adopt her but now all of a sudden the real mother gets a certified letter in the mail saying she had to take out health insurance
on her lil girl if the other family adopted her why would the biological mother have to take out insurance. just wanted someone opinion on the situation

Adoption records are usually sealed. After an adoption, the biological parents have no rights to the child, so to be forced to take out health insurance is illegal. But, it seems as though the adoption has not gone through yet, so the bio mother is still legally responsible for her child. Unless the bio mother has legally waived all rights to her daughter, then she can be court-ordered to do anything that is in the "best interest of the child" including paying child support, and carrying insurance. If she is unsure of what her legal rights are at this point, with a pending adoption, she can seek a free consultation with a lawyer, and if she wants to pursue the matter in court and cannot afford a lawyer, then she can apply for legal aide. |
