I really want to adopt........?

From South Korea and China when I am older. My heart is with Asia, and I know I am meant to adopt. But, I was just wandering if anyone on Yahoo answers has adopted from South Korea or China. If so, tell me a little bit about your adoption experience and what you named your child, etc and so on. Thanks!

Well Jeremy if you plan to adopt from China ever you will need to be married I believe for at least 3 years if it’s your first marriage. You have to also be at least 30. China has a bunch of other criteria. You must also be married to adopt from South Korea in fact as a man you will find very few foreign countries that will allow single men to adopt any that let single’s adopt generally it is only single women. Brazil is one country that allows both single men and woman to adopt. In SK the youngest you can be is 25. You also looking at spending up to 30grand. If you adopt from China you will have to travel to China.
Assuming your white from your avatar you would also need to read up on interracial adoption as well as read up and learn your PAC culture. You might even be wise to learn some of the child's native tongue.

Just a heads up, you're going to get a lot of negative answers here for this question from adult adoptees. Unfortunately that is what dominates this particular adoption forum so you don't get to see both sides. I would suggest going someplace like http://forums.adoption.com/ as there is a more balanced view and equal representation from both sides of adoption, including even happy adoptees..
With the Hague convention, adoption from China and many other countries is going to get a lot stricter which is a good thing really. Adoption from there will probably start to be more older children and special needs rather then infants.
My husband and I are researching adoption and have been for the last couple years. We started out thinking of adopting a baby from a foreign country thinking there were just hordes of them to adopt and that has evolved to adopting a minority sibling group from right here in the states.
Infant adoption is a competitive, money making deal for the private agencies involved. It will take a bit of searching to find one that isn't coercing women into giving up their babies to sell you for $30,000 in fees.. There are exceptions though, especially those that handle special needs programs which can be something like a repaired cleft palate and other things that aren't really that overly special needs. .
Best of luck in your research though, hopefully you find someone willing to share their honest experience and the ethics involved..
Gaia:
Would you say the majority here is "PRO" adoption? No? Exactly, mostly NOT pro adoption. Thank you, exactly what I said.. Isn't it a little hypocritical to discourage adoption for everyone BUT you? |

Don't adopt. No one is MEANT to adopt hence why people actually give birth... its NATURE's way of continuing life. Man created adoption - specifically the way adoption is today - taking children out of their own culture and away from their heritage. Look into what you can do for the countless children in the Foster care system of your country. There are thousands of children who need homes - not adoption per say but love and care and stability. Surely that is the most important thing? |

Hey Jenna, thanks so much for speaking up for everyone else. We all really appreciate your little passive aggressive explaination of who we are and what we think, and why we think what we do.
FYI, I'm a top contributor, I'm on the top 10 answerers in this section, and I'm a prospective adoptive parent.
And I'm also just about as anti-adoption as you can get, and still be adopting.
Anyway, Jeremy, your reasons for adopting are all about you. Which means it's the wrong reason. You were not "lead" to adopt by God. God isn't in the business of separating mothers from their children so that you can be happy. If you decide to adopt because there are children who need homes, and if you can handle laying down ALL your expectations of children (because they don't need your expectations when they're already grieving for their parents), try adopting through foster care. |
