I want my husband to adopt my son?

My husband's birthday is coming up and I know he would love to adopt my son(he has been daddy since our son was 3 months old and we have 2 sons together also) My name is the only name listed on the birth certificate so his biological father (who has never seen him) has no parental rights. Anyway I would like to obtain all the paperwork for him to legally adopt our son Tray but I have no clue where to begin. How do you do this?

his biological dad does know about him, i even gave him a picture of him once...he just refused the responsibility. I tried my best to get him involved, i even called him from the hospital after he was born to come see him, he was a no show.

Long story short. My dad came into our family when I was 3 Mont's too. I have 5 Siblings. He has always been my dad in my eyes and will always be. I knew somehow that he wasn't but still I didn't care. He is my dad, Point is He hired a Family attorney and started the process, I think I was 12 when this was going on and I still remember. There was a lot of paperwork and a lot of money involved [I mean not AN EXTREME amount of money, We are an average income Family] But I remember a lot of paperwork and meetings on his part. I just remember going to the attorneys office here and there and at the LAST part I remember going to court. The court wanted to talk to my dad first ALONE, Then My sister alone, And then ME alone. I remember they asked me if I knew what was going on, If I wanted him to be my FATHER, I told them that he was my father and i woulnd't want it any other way. They judge knew we all knew what we were doing and that we all wanted it. Throughout all of this, My dad showed COMMITMENT and Perserverence that he wanted us ALL as his children. I will never forget that. They even gave me a teddy bear after all the papers were signed. That was probably one of the happiest day of my lives. I wish you the best of luck! All of you, This is something that not only you can want. Your husband and your son have to show they want it aswell.

What a unique birthday present.

I hope you plan on telling Tray the truth about his parentage, (if you haven't already) even though your husband is undoubtedly a great dad, your son deserves to know that he has a different "biological" father out there. It may be important to him someday.

Contact a family law attorney for the correct paperwork. They will be able to get through the paperwork. Keep in mind, it's not easy even doing a one parent adoption. You'll be surprised at how much YOU have to do as well.

To prevent problems at a later date start it correctly from the get-go. You require a lawyer , particularly one who deals in adoptions. You can call your local Bar Association and tell them your need. They will give you some referrals. Should you lack funding try the Legal Aid Society also. GoodLuck
