I have three beautiful boys and i love them heaps, but i really want to adopt a little girl. This is something i have wanted to do since i was a little girl myself! I never actually thought i would have my own children i always thought i would adopt. Can anyone tell me how to get the process started? I dont care what nationality, i feel it is something i am meant to do in this life.

I would start out by talking to your current family and explaining to them that it is something you really want to do. and that it is nothing wrong with them. My Mom had 7 BOYS. When she finally got a Granddoughter I could tell there was a Speciall bond there. A little different then with us boys.
I would call an adobtion agency. Look it up in the phone book. I'm sure there is someone there who is more then willing to help you and point you in the right direction.

If you are Australian you will need to contact The Department of Human Services (or similar) in your state. There are no private adoption agencies in Australia so any adoption would need to be processed through your state government's adoption department. They should be able to send you an information package and then you will probably attend an information night which should tell you how to proceed.
It would also be very wise to join one or more of the parent support groups such as Families with Children from China:

Or ASIAC or ICARN. They will be able to provide you with lots of good information. |

Contact HOLT International in Eugene, OR and they can send you some paperwork - this is who I used and I had no trouble adopting from China - my daughter is now 11 and we havent had one ounce of trouble or problems that you sometimes hear about.

Most countries, including the United States, do not allow parents to select the gender of the baby they adopt unless they adopt an older child (usually 2 years old+). China is the exception and they do allow parents to specify if they prefer adopting a girl. The way to get started is to get in contact with an agency that specializes in international adoption. One example is www.chinesechildren.org. |

Enjoy your son's girlfriends and wives, and wait for a granddaughter. Maybe what you were "meant to do" is take very special care of a granddaughter - and, who knows, she may arrive sooner than you think!! |

Im sorry, but as an adoptee this really pisses me off. You dont get to pick whether you have a boy/girl when your having the baby yourself. It shouldnt be any different for adoptive parents.
You adopt a child because you want or NEED another child to love. Unconditional love. You dont get to pick! You get what you get and consider yourself blessed to be given another child to love and love you back. |
