I want to adopt but I need help with the assistance?

I really want to adopt after 10 yrs of trying. I know what people say just try and relax, well I have endometriosis and because if it I've had to have one of my fallopian tubes removed. I really want to adopt, My question is we are in a recession are there any assistance for the home-study, I found organizations that would give me the grant for the rest of it, but the home-study cost is what we are having trouble with. Additional Details before posting to this question, you must realize something, when you are pregnant, before you have a child you save and buy stuff along, after the birth the insurance companies, pay for their portion and you pay for yours. Now for everyone that says that if you cant afford homestudy, then please do not post here. Because when you have a child you do not need $3000 up front, before you can have them. I can provide for a adopted child, once they are here. So don't go their. This is why so many children are in the system.

There is absolutely no way my husband and I could have afforded to pay for a homestudy without saving up for years. My husband and I both have good jobs, steady income, albiet, not a lot of money that we can come upfront with on a moments notice.
We adopted 3 years ago from foster care and NOT having the money to pay 2000 dollars for a homestudy bore no reflection on whether or not we could be good parents or provide for our children financially or emotionally. Please do not feel "less than" because you do not have a ton of disposable income. Parenting is not just for the wealthy, neither is adoption.
Private adoption was not something we wanted because we had no desire to "buy" a baby. We wanted to create our family by giving a child who would otherwise be in fostercare, a family. The total sum we paid into the process itself was 30$ each for our police checks.
We adopted a 3 year old boy and his sister, 18 months. They are now 6 and 4.
What I would suggest to you is to start doing some pretty heavy research into foster care, foster children, the needs of children who are adopted from foster care, etc.
I would also take some time for self-reflection about your infertility. Grieve that first, and adopt only after you have done that.
Good luck in your journey. |

Adoptions of children in foster care (children in foster care that are cleared for adoption, not those in short term foster care) are free in most areas. In those areas where there are charges they are small and usually less then $1000. If you can't afford that then you shouldn't be adopting. |

Homestudies only cost $300-$500 from the state, and $1,000-$3,000 from a private agency.
If you adopt through foster care, the state often reimburses some or all of the cost.
However, I have to be totally blunt here. If you aren't able to afford that at this time, you need to seriously consider if you are financially stable enough to care for a child. The fact you can't afford the homestudy raises serious red flags for me about whether you have the ability to support another family member.
Please hold off on adoption until you are sure you are able to provide for your adopted child's needs. The fact you are struggling to pay the very moderate home study fee ought to be making you question yourself a bit on that.
Caring for a child in the long term will be a LOT more expensive than this one-time fee, and you really need to be prepared for that BEFORE you adopt, rather than scrambling to make ends meet afterward. |

As a woman in a very similar situation, it's only been 5 years and no tubes removed, I highly recommend foster care. In Michigan, it's completely free to be foster parents, other than the expenses of caring for the children. The home study was free, finger printing and background checks were free, the only thing we had to pay for was our physicals from the doctor but our licensing worker said he can reimburse us for those later. Really, it is in high demand and you can definitely adopt through foster care if the child's parents rights are terminated and there isn't any family members that want to adopt. Send me a message if you want more information or just want to talk, I know exactly what you are going through. Good luck and God bless! |

I honestly don't mean to be rude here, but please keep in mind that other people's children do not exist to fill that hole in you that your fertility has left. And other women are not obligated to provide you with a child. It sounds to me like you would not be choosing to adopt if you could have your own child. No child needs to be someone's last resort. That's insulting and hurtful to children who truly need new families.
If you'd like to help out children, you could provide foster care or volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club or Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Best of luck to you. |

Start with foster care, you will get to choose the age,and foster parents get first dibs on babies. They also get a discount for the adoption. |

They are right! Dept. of Social Services are the way to go due to costs. They have plenty of children that are in the system due to illness or mental & physical issues. You can look into other states w/out extra costs. You just pay court, travel, & any other extras you might need. We have been foster/adopt for 1+yr., but we are looking for a certain age. We've had no luck, but I'm sure you will 'cause you don't have the limits that most do. Good Luck & God Bless.
