We live in Georgia and we have had custody of him for three years now since his mother signed over her rights to us. We don't want to lose him back to her as he is like a son to us.

If he's in state foster care then wouldn't the state have custody and you would be the guardian?
Anyway- I know that in MY state it doesn't cost the adoptive family anything to adopt from state foster care.
I would talk to your social worker.

I didn't think it cost anything (if so it is just lawyers fees) to adopt through the system. It is when you get into private adoption agencies that cost all the money. Talk to your case worker, the mother is going to have to relinquish all her rights (or have them taken from her) for you to adopt anyways.
Your best bet is defiantly talking to your case worker, as they are the most knowledgeable on your son and his case in particular. |

my dad got gaurdianship of me (hes not my biological dad) and it cost him 1000 dollars. i think adoption would cost more than that. you should contact and adoption center and tell them your situation and see what they say. good luck and God bless! |

If mom signed over her rights, then the child will not go back to her as she "has no more rights to him". Get an adoption attorney and apply for the hearing! If he is your "foster son", then why isn't the state of (wherever you live) handling this for you? |
