I am a birthmother who put a child up for adoption.The agency was very shady and did not provide me with therapy afterward they totally forgot about my needs after the papers were signed.It was a very hard decision to make on it's own and I was wondering if there was support groups out there for mothers who had gone through this same situation????

These are a few of the good ones that will respect you and recognize your pain. if the agency did not tell you about the trauma and unresolved grief and loss you will face, then they lied to you. They've known for ages. But you don't get mothers to surrender their babies so you can 'sell" those babies for $15,000 or more if you tell them the truth. I"m sorry you lost your beloved child to one of these baby brokers. |

see the links felicita supplied. i'm really sorry the agency dissed you. quite honestly, most have no clue how to deal with the feelings of a "firstmother"; primarily, because most only see you (and other fmoms) as breeders for their paying clients. you deserved more respect and support.
hence, do not go to any more support groups at adoption agencies... these are not support groups, yet "indoctrination sessions" to keep you drinking the adoption kool-aid, remind you of the "gift" you gave to some deserving couple, diminish your grief as "hormonal" and "temporary"; so that you can "recruit" the next round of fertile women.

Hopefully the links Felicita provided will help you locate one. I've have never been able to find one in my area that is exclusively for mothers - they all include adoptive parents, which I believe to be very damaging and exploitive of mothers. |

well i go to a support group called First Care Pregnancy Center
its a support group run by a church for teen mothers, people who aborted, people who adopted and other things dealing with babies.
check to see if they have one around your area
they are wonderful people |
